USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

Will all of the presidential nomination spots be given out all at once??

Here is the email that our DS received.

" I hope that you are having a great senior year. At our Senior Leadership meeting we were told that West Point will be sending offers out by email on February 26th to those who have been awarded the appointment. If you don’t receive an offer then you will be put into the national waiting list so that admissions can finish awarding the remaining appointments. Those awards will be made in late April or the first week of May.
Good luck to you. It has been a long journey but you are almost there."

For those on the West Coast, just be patient. You have to remember the letters have to travel quite far.

I am lucky- I live only 45 mins from West Point, hence that is why I got my letter so quickly.

Just be patient, your time will come very soon.

This is the exact same wording as an email my son received - we are also in Texas. I am a little confused because it says "then you will be put into the national waiting list....". DS previously received a letter stating he was on the NWL since he was 3Q with a nom - but not the principle.

But it does sound like there will be two big "waves" - one this coming week and another one at the end of April rather than several as has been reported from past years.

This first wave of offers is clearly:

1. The Congressional Vacancy Winners (P-Noms or the West Point determined P-Noms for those MOCs that presented an unranked slate)
2. Top Ranked Presidential nominees
3. Some Diversity Nominations
4. Recruited atheletic nominees
5. Selected top quality Active duty and Reserve nominees

The selections from the NWL will be done next. This might take a few weeks to complete.

In short - if you were not the P-Nom (either selected by the MOC or WP) then you will probably NOT hear anything this month.

In my opinion - if you got an LOE you will probably(not 100%) get an offer sooner or later

LOE

Big Nick,
I hope you are correct about the chances with an LOE! I assume the LOE took into consideration if you had attended the SLS and so that an LOE and SLS attendance doesn't further enhance the odds of being selected, correct? Comparing stats with previous classes in search of clues has become mind numbing. Thanks for all of your insights during this process.

I can only hope! Looks like we'll see on the 26th

I never received an email like that, or any type of email.

I'm in!

Heard from my Senator Friday that I received an appointment to West Point! Can't wait to join you all on R-Day!

No, I received a qualified letter a few weeks ago, but not an LOE.

SLS, while a great opportunity to see where the academy is and have a great adventure. It has no bearing on your WCS. There is no box on the application to check.

SOE are based off of WCS and a more rounded candidate. For example, if a candidate is reapplying and spent the last year improving ACT/SAT scores, is taking college level classes and doing well. This candidate has proven he can handle the riggers of WP. Thus a higher WCS.

Congratulations jimd!

Just out of curiosity, did your qualified letter mention that the Admissions Committee qualified your file and all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made?

What is a qualified letter, I never got one but my local liason says my file has fully qualified status.

If you are qualified by the academy and have a nomination then you are eligible for an appointment. Not all admissions officers/RC sent out qualified letters. If you were told you were qualified, but did not get a letter then don't worry about not having a letter.
