USMA local lodging options

How far "away" for A-day?
We stayed in Nanuet, nice hotel, good eating places and close to Nyack which is also nice but a little more expensive. Since Plebes have to wear the dress uniform when outside the room, if you can find a suite or attached rooms it gives them a "get away from uniform". Past A Day's Plebes did not get to stay overnight, they had to be back for Taps and were released the following morning so wherever you stay will require returning them late evening and picking them up again in the early AM, so don't go too far away.

The Thayer is pricey but we booked it for graduation on RDAY. Paid full (required) 4 night minimum at $600/night. I understand it’s $900/night for 2026.
I would do it all over again with no regrets. It was worth being inside the gate. Family stayed at West Point hotel which is in town. Very convenient with minimal driving. We stayed at WP Motel almost every time we visited. We don’t need a pool or any frills. Again, location. Driving our Cadet in the gate for taps and having to drive back out of town to a hotel late at night wasn’t our thing. Not that we don’t like driving, because it’s over 1000 miles each way to get to WP from home and we did it many times!
There were some very nice air BB outside South Gate we visited on graduation, but I didn’t ask cost.
How many family members you travel with and their needs will also be a factor on the location and type of accommodations you choose. Regardless, there are different options available, just bring your wallet!

$900 a night for 2026. Yikes! Bring your wallet is right ... and maybe someone else's wallet as well. LOL.

With lodging think long about what you want. But not too long. For graduation, you probably need to make reservations no later than the end of Yuk year. You can wait longer but your options diminish.
The advantage of the Thayer is close proximity. Down side, you are paying a premium and if you eat there the food is over priced and average at best. I’ve seen them serve butter cream icing on desserts at a banquet with dignitaries that have been rancid.
For post graduation get togethers I’ve found an Airbnb with a pool worked best. Family gathered there after graduation and relaxed by the pool with my new LT, family, and friends. Of course, check with your host. Most prohibit “parties”. I told mine we would have a “gathering”, how many would be there, etc. There were no issues and cost per person for lodging and food was much less.
I’ve also seen people rent RVs and put extra family in hotels. That seems to work well, but again, plan early. Parking spots on post go quickly.

Booked our hotel for R Day (June 27th) at the Holiday Inn Express in Peekskill. Got a decent price and rooms are still available. We are looking to get an AirBnB for A Day in August since we will have additional family joining us for the glorious occasion :)

Lots of options… my wife and I visited 10+ times during our sons 4 years. Stayed at the Thayer for special occasions…plebe parent weekend and ring weekend. Other times in Nanuet and Central Valley…always Hampton Inns. Aday was great to stay a little bit removed from post….your plebe will enjoy the separation. We also spent a number of weekends in Cold Spring(Air BNB or the Pig Hill Inn).
