After waiting, what felt like eons, the DS had a definitive answer to USNA (TD). He promptly emailed USMMA admissions with his acceptance. For those of you who have already accepted USMMA appointments, can you shed light on what is the process to prep for admissions going forward? When does he receive instructions, paperwork, etc.? How long does it take to get the instructions? Does he get to do a visit to KP as a prospective candidate? What should we expect going forward?

You should receive reporting instructions in a couple weeks. In the meantime, you can look at last year's instructions on the USMMA website. They change very little from year to year. Start with making sure the plebe candidate has a current passport and TWIC card. You will get a ton of paperwork to fill out. Make sure to keep copies of everything. KP has been known to lose paperwork that you send in. We sent our plebe candidates with a folder containing copies of everything and we kept another copy at home. In the category of not-asked-for-advice, even though a plebe candidate may be disappointed at getting rejected by USNA, be sure to leave that in the rear view mirror and be all in on USMMA. There are always PC's in every class who won't stop whining about how they wish they had gotten accepted at another academy which does not sit well with classmates and especially upperclassmen. Good luck and enjoy your remaining time together.

Thank you. We already checked his latest passport (he's had one since he was a year old) and it is valid for another two years. We will apply for TWIC card this week. Can't wait for this next step in the process. He is excited and is not least bit disappointed with the USNA rejection. He has been reading USMMA a lot and feels it is a better option for him over USNA.

there is a USMMA parents of class of 2028 group on facebook that is a great place to join- will be having zoom meetings on Sundays for a bit that will be helpful with information.
I searched for it on fb. There were several groups that popped up. I hope I sent request to join with the right one. @Bduett and @Boymomof3 have you joined the fb group? Can I DM you to find out which one to join?

Hello! Congratulations 🎉!

Re: the FB page. I joined one but I’m not sure it’s the correct one. @Professor44 - do you know the name? I joined one called: USMMA Class of 2028 Parents (Safe Space) (Unofficial). Is there a different one? I’d love to join the one that offers Sunday calls 😉. We have one at University/in NROTC but for some reason this one is hitting harder & I’m more worried we’ll miss something 😭😢🥺.

Getting the TWIC card was easy & fast. Good luck 🍀! Re: the passport, we renewed our son’s since it was going to expire while he was there. I remember guidance that said if it expired within a certain time period, they should renew before they come. I’ll try to remember where I saw that & get back to you. They are more resourceful than I give them credit for but I just had trouble picturing how he would renew it while at KP (no car, can’t leave, sports. we are 1k miles away, etc.). And, he had to apply for a new one (not renew) - since his last one was issued at age 15 (not 16 or later). I needed a diagram to figure out their rules 😂 but I think we did it right …

Hi soccermom I’m so sorry about USNA but happy you’ll be joining us at USMMA! The 2028 FB page looks like this. I also joined the wrong one at first! They had a zoom call last night that was very helpful and there will be more to come! Also passport needs to be valid through graduation 2028. 😃

Yes this is another factor to know! My DS has to do the same! Aside from passport and TWIC the other thing they mentioned on the call was to make sure you get wisdom teeth removed ASAP so that does not create an issue once at the academy.

Great point re: wisdom teeth! He had to have his out a few years ago - thankfully. Good luck 🍀 if you guys have to do that! It went fine but definitely adds one more thing to the to-do list….

Looks like this is the one I requested to join last night. Had to answer a few questions. I am excited to learn the process and get going with the next stage.

I think the passport has to be valid to 31 Dec 2028
Thank you for the clarification! Assuming your DD/DS is 18yo at time of application / renewal it will be valid for 10 years which is nice! The funny thing is, renewing / applying now BEFORE Indoc will have many not looking at all like their passport picture! 😂 Currently my DS has a mop of curly hair so customs will probably have to do a double take when comparing his post-Indoc look with his passport picture!

Same 😂😂! Plus his picture was pretty bad (hair was a hot mess) but he needs to do this on his own so I had to let it go. I was like: you know you have this passport for 10 years, right? Why didn’t fix your hair first? 😵‍💫😳

There is a document sent out to entering classes that is called “Logging In…”. That document will pretty much define the things you will need to do. The one for the class of 2025 can be found at Logging In Class of 2025. The one for the class of 2028 will likely be published in just a few weeks but I do suggest you take the time to review the 2025 document. Changes from year to year are minimal.

Edit, I did locate a Logging In for the class of 2026 at Logging In 2026. Once at the site you will see "Download" in the lower left portion of the screen.

I suspect that is correct. Looking at Logging In Class of 2026 Reporting Instructions it states "Passport (renew your passport ASAP if it will expire prior to 31 December 2026)." Projecting forward, for the class of 2028 the Reporting Instructions will likely state "Passport (renew your passport ASAP if it will expire prior to 31 December 2028)."

The Reporting Instructions also state "If your Passport will expire while you are a Midshipman, you will be responsible for the renewal prior to the expiration date."

In one regard, I would suggest waiting until you get your specific "Logging In" before purchasing big ticket items like a calculator. The recommended may change from year to year.

I don't think you realize the windfall your son is gonna get when the 4 yrs is over. Unless he decides to go active duty like some of us do he's gonna be making 6 figures out the gate. No other academy has that opportunity. Congrats on picking KP and welcome to the Zoo family as we alumni lovingly call it.

Thank you. He was already leaning towards USMMA before USNA TD came out. He is very happy with his choice, though he does want to commission at this point. But four years is a long time to change your mind. I'd be happy either way.

Either is a good choice. I went active duty as a Surface Warfare Officer after Kings Point when Desert Storm broke out so I was right in the thick of it driving a destroyer in the Persian Gulf. But after 5 yrs I left AD as a Navt LT to go back in the Merchant Marine. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make 4X my Navy pay for doing almost the same thing.

My DS is currently working on his TWIC application. I saw in the logging in instructions it said choose MMA as employer, but then it wants an address- do we put the address of the Academy?
