USMMA Class of 2028 Waiting

Hope everyone is doing well! Just wanted to let y’all know that your answer might just arrive via fed ex with no portal change. My DS is under review but we got his formal and very beautiful appointment package in the fed ex this afternoon! He’s accepted and will be joining the USMMA class of 2028!!! We are so proud of him and proud to be Kings Pointers! Good luck to everyone still in a limbo!!!:)

OK, welcome and congrats to your DS. Now sit back and a short respite. Note I said short because when you read the packet, there is much to be done pre-admission.

Congrats! I too got my notification on my birthday, but long ago in another century and in the form of a telegram.

My DS was waiting on the dreaded asthma waiver, but the waiver was granted quickly (less than 3 weeks) after I sent his requested pharmacy records and had him tested at an asthma specialist. He was then contacted by admissions this past week and was told that they never received letters of recommendation from his high school teachers even though his portal said his application was complete. So he scrambled and got those resubmitted late Friday night. So now we wait….

I have heard so many issues with the letters of REC for USMMA this year. We took a picture when all the portals were completed - and I’m so happy I read to do that! I hope it all works out for you! My son just turned down USMMA so hopefully that opens a spot.

It must be a really busy and stressful process for the Admissions people, so I’m sure somethings get missed. But it all worked out for us in the end, he got his FedEx letter yesterday and a text from the Track Coach the day before, so he is in. Submitted his acceptance letter last night.

I’m glad it worked out for you. I have read on some forums that the students had the check marks in the portal and then they disappeared and admissions said so sorry. File closed. My son had a LOA from USMMA so there was not a lot of stress (and he turned them down) but I feel for the kids that out so much effort into the application process and we’re turned down bc of a portal issue. My son’s school had issues with receiving the letter of recommendation emails as well. They had to submit them through his AO.
 
Does anyone know how many people are on the waiting list?

My DD’s portal updated her status to “Principal Offer” or something like that after she received her appointment from FedEx. Once she sent in her acceptance of appointment via email it updated to “Principal Offer Accepted” the same day. So I don’t think it updates until you receive the actual appointment.

Are all appointments principal? I've heard that, at least for the other academies, a principal nomination is a guaranteed appointment as long as you are 3Q.
 
Before I bother the USMMA folks and because I’m not a patient person when it comes to planning travel, has anyone gotten any information concerning the July 5th Indoctrination Day? Was gonna book a VBRO but maybe there’s a hotel block(s) or maybe things happen around the date that I need to be aware of so I book a long enough stay. Thanks for any advice/guidance/knowledge any one has about this!! The whole family is just very excited and want to get our trip planned fully!! Thanks again!:) Good luck to anyone still waiting!!!

Kings Point is probably the worst academy for nearby lodging.

Get the AirBnB / vRBO now and while you are at it, go ahead and reserve it for Parents weekend.
 
DS portal says NMMI principal today under status. It previously said waitlist. What does that mean ? We haven’t gotten any calls emails or mail so far …
 
Definitely book early. We always stay at an Airbnb or VRBO in Port Washington just to get away from the madness in Kings Point on busy days. The Long Island RR is your friend and it is an easy train ride to "downtown" Great Neck with a short 10 minute bus ride to KP. Or you can rent a car and drive about 25 minutes from Port Washington to KP. If you drive, get there early (before 0700) to see morning colors and get a parking place. There are a couple hotels in Great Neck that fill up fast and are ridiculously expensive. If your Plebe Candidate is on a sports team, check with the coach because they usually have a meet and greet the evening before INDOC. Reporting times on the first day of INDOC will be assigned in your reporting instructions. BE EARLY and say your goodbyes before you come on campus.
