I was just wondering if anyone has been given a scholarship to go to the umma prep school. Also, if you plan on attending. I think I will be and was just curious.

So far the USMMA has identified (to us) 25 people for the next academic year. The overall total varies from year to year but is always between 30 and 40. The list is usually finalized in late May.

What this means to you is that you will have a LARGE support network when you do get to Kings Point. You will be more academically, physically, and militarily ready than your counterparts. You will have time and stress management skills way beyond your current ability.

If you have any doubts about prepping, go to the Kings Point YouTube videos and see what your predecessors said about their year here.

If you have ANY questions please call.

    Do this!!! Nmmi

My DD who is a 1/c Mid went to NMMI for 2 years as a SELF prep.....1st year prepped for another academy (which shall not be named) and the 2nd year for USMMA..... She graduated from NMMI with High Honors and entered USMMA very well prepared.

This was the absolute BEST decision that she has made in her career path. I backed her 2,000%. The extra maturity for that 2 years have PROVED a great asset to her ability to do her best at USMMA. Her friendships have lasted over the years at USMMA and the other cadets who went on to other Academy's. (The reunions even happen at the CG sporting events whether at USMMA or the CGA..)

I would highly encourage you to take this opportunity at NMMI.....

    NorthWestern Prep (NWP)

Another alternative is NorthWestern Prep (NWP) in the San Bernardino mountains of southern California. They take in a high number of Falcon grant candidates for USAFA each year, as well as many from USNA. I expect they will take USMMA scholarship candidates too. We sent our DS there without any scholarship and he left there very well prepared for the rigors of pt and regimentation, as well as the time management skills that are required at USMMA. And now he has friends at all of the service academies.

For a high level summary, go to their web site and click on "about":
    http://www.northwesternprep.com/

    They are also at:

Best of luck to you all:thumb:

Let me guess. The school that "shall not be named" is the CGA?

Your question is not off topic. I don't understand what you are asking completely. I'll try though............ all sponsored preps do get the scholarship from the USMMA and from NMMI.

To NCDSDad: NWP is a good program. The Falcon Foundation uses them, us and three other civilian prep schools for their scholarships. However, NMMI is to the USMMA what USMAPS is to the USMA; and NAPS is to the USNA. USMMA preps (unlike the Falcons, AoG, and Naval Academy Foundation) do not get a choice of where to go. The USCGA has a similar arrangement with us and Marion.

I can't speak for the Admissions Office at the USMMA but I can say this: if you accept the SPONSORED prep slot here an appointment the following year is reserved for you. If you decide to apply as a "free agent" form another college/school, you will compete for that appointment.

When DS ( KP app. 2015) was starting this process last year his academy rep from USCGA stated that if he was not a direct appointment he probably wouldn't be considered for prep because it was mostly used as a diversity too! Ouch, to a white kid who doesn't even tan well, living in small town in the Midwest with married parents , stay at home mom, police officer dad, smack dab in the middle class! But USMMA didn't seem to take the same stance or at least say it out loud.
A funny story: when DS received his appointment letter from USMMA stating he was class of 2015 it also had a form from NMMI class of 2012 (?). However that peice of paper didn't have his name on it. When we were able to call admissions they said it was a mistake and resent the proper paperwork for him to sign accepting his appointment to the academy. After all we have read in the last few months DS says that appointment to NMMI looks pretty good. He said he would have been disappointed had he not gotten a direct appointment but now that he has he can certainly see how a year at NMMI would be a very valuable offer! And actually more adventagious since the no set back tack USMMA is rumored to be taking. He remarked "remember when my friends parents sent him to military school as a punishment?" "why couldn't you have sent me to military school!" lol. Please note I am not comparing the two, it was just funny when he said it. Getting into sponsored prep would have been awesome! Congratulations to all who have or will get in because some i know who didnt will need the calc tutoring!

My understanding is that qualified candidates are considered based on a number of factors. The main criterea being "potential for academic sucess".

    NMMI

When does the USMMA let you know if you are getting a scholarship? I have completed my application and all is very good except for my SAT scores. I think I would benefit with a year at NMMI. Can yu request it from USMMA?

Anyone interested in being considered for prep school, should contact the Admissions Office to express such wishes. Being that only 30-40 students of hundreds are chosen, makes it a very selective process. Good luck to all who are looking at that option and congrats to those already offered.

My son is an AF sponsored prep at NMMI and his room mate is a USMMA sponsored prep. Great kid who is doing extremely well at NMMI and I am sure he will excel at USMMA. Both kids are on the Superintendent's list this semester. Coincidentally, another kid that my son played middle and high school basketball with is also a MMA sponsored prep and he was just named one of the Corps "Best New Cadets" this semester. The preparation that all the cadets receive at NMMI is first class and we are very glad that our son is there.
