I have a 3.71 u GPA and a 4.15 weighted GPA. 30 Act and a 690 sat math. I have a varsity letter and I am the president of two clubs. A member of NHS with 100+ volunteer hours. I have taken 9 AP classes and finished courses like AP Calc AB and AP Physics C. Any chance of me receiving an appointment?

First off, welcome to the Service Academy Forums. I see that you are a new member. Also, I see that you have posted the same or similar question in the Air Force section.

I am not an expert at ALL, but let me convey what I have read many times over on this website:
    1. your chances are zero if you don't apply
    2. read the thread (sticky) in section of the USNA forum entitled "...what are my chances..."
    3. Your chances depend greatly on your location. Is your district competitive or do very few young people seek a nomination?
    4. You only list your math score which is above the 75th percentile range for the last class profile. Does your CR need work? The good news, the USNA superscores.
    5. I think 3.71 u is very good, but that might just be in our area. USNA considers class rank as well to better judge where you stand among your peers.

.... there are many other things to say, but read the Stickies and it will provide a good foundation of understanding or for what I have learned there is no firm foundation or keys to obtain for absolute success for it's nearly impossible to gauge. But, please don't let that sentiment deter you from your goals - apply!

    Take Care.

I have read they super score between SAT and ACT. The school I attend is 70th in the nation and I'm 40/126 for my class rank. CR:580. It's low but my ACT reading is much higher (28)

USNA does not look at ACT reading. USNA looks at ACT English and math and SAT CR and math. Your SAT CR is below average by USNA standards and it would be in your best interest to improve it.

I signed up for another ACT in the fall and maybe another after that. And Ill take another SAT as well. Is there a score that would put me in a safe position? For both tests.

Even a 36 ACT or 2400 SAT does not guarantee an appointment to any of the service academies. They all use the WCS (whole candidate score). Reread the stickies as noted above. Voyager20 gave some good places to start. Are you a rising senior (or a junior/sophomore)?

I know a guy that has a 35 Math and 35 English ACT that is retaking the ACT until he gets a 36 or until he runs out of opportunities to take the ACT. He is not in a "safe position" and there is no score that will put him in a "safe position" but there is a score that will put him in the best position and that is 1600 SAT/36 ACT.

I am aware of more than one candidate with 800/800 who received a turndown.

Well I belive I have everything else that is included in the WCS evaluation. I just feel I am lacking in my standardized test scores. The only things I can do now is try again this fall. There are 3 more ACTs.

And one last question: for the academic portion of the WCS, are all of the factors weighted equally or are standardized tests weighted more?

The candidate multiple is an entering argument for the admissions board, there is no point trying to calculate or figure out exactly which is weighted more or less. USNA is a STEM school, so expect those types of subjects to carry a little more weight --- other than that excel in what you do.
