USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

I don't think it really matters, and I also don't think there is any way to corroborate those numbers. I will say that number is probably not very accurate, only because there are almost 100 appointments just listed on this site. Obviously, only a small percentage of people are actually reporting to this forum (some have stated 10% +/- in any given year). It's not impossible, but have to imagine if Annapolis is on 300 appointments deep this late in March, they are way, way behind.
I heard it on the USMMA campus in Admissions from a USMMA representative. They could have issued 100 or 200 more appointments in those 10 days but they are behind. Ultimately it doesn’t matter (and I didn’t mean to bunch things up by mentioning it!:) they’ll get to everyone! Just keep up the hope! Just 19 days now and it’ll all be known and you can go next steps; I-Day hopefully but if not, shore up those plan b and c’s! Good luck all and GO NAVY!!:)

Did he make it off the waitlist?
Negative. Was sitting with an amazing Plan B (NROTC-MO) opportunity since that fall, Plan C USAF opportunity. Sat on the waitlist, paralleled Plan B requirements (NSI etc), TWE’d mid June. Yes, he graduated not knowing what his next step would be … only thing 💯 is service to this country. Currently on the road towards his dream as a cadet at VMI & Re-applicant this cycle.

Darn, made it all the way to June. I'm sorry!

How's he doing at MO's NROTC?

Fingers crossed for good news this cycle!

Some fun stats to keep us occupied while we wait:

Last year, class of 2027, there were a total of 154 appointments on the thread when it was closed, and on March 7th there were 96 appointments. So 62.3%

This year, class of 2028, there are 82 appointments on the 2028 thread as of March 7th. If there are the same number of appointments reported on here this year, 53.2% have been reported.

Since the appointment thread hit 100 appointments I thought it would be fun to revisit this.

Last year there were 154 total appointments posted, and on March 27th there were 111 appointments. So 72.1%

This year there are 100 appointments posted as of March 27th. If the same number of appointments are posted this year, 64.9% have been reported.

They're still behind, but starting to catch up!

I would say that those numbers don’t really mean anything since the number of people who post on service academy forums changes every year. Class of like 2025 had 175ish people report. With those numbers, then by class of 2025 standards, we are only 57.1% of the way through. Case in point, we looking for an “unknown known,” something is knowable but isn’t known - in this instance we are looking for the total number of appointments that have been sent out and how many they plan on sending out but we simply don’t know either of those, only the people on the admissions boards do. That is why this form and called “waiting and speculating” - we can’t do anything more than speculate. Numbers are simply numbers unless you have the full picture (and no one here does) and you can’t draw accurate conclusions from this. The most accurate intel we can gather from this is what someone overheard from USMMA rep who said that they (USNA) was behind. But being from a human source who heard it from someone else who heard it from somewhere else, things can be misinterpreted and misunderstood and otherwise lost in translation (for a great example of this to page 60 something where I totally butcher and misunderstand nominations and charging and get corrected 😭😭). Not saying that what the USMMA rep said was inaccurate, there’s just no way to know. Looking to USAFA and USMA self updating pages also only show partial pictures and there are too many factors to draw any accurate conclusions. We can only speculate and wait :(( (I’m really done doing both and just want to know already though 😂😂)

So far excelling with Plan B, VMI is no joke when it comes to a military college. DS heard from admissions today, they wanted his HS transcripts sent again. Good news is the big machine appears to be fired up and moving along.

Will we ever get a document or anything saying you have not been considered for an appointment to the Academies? or should we take the silence as the sign?
At some point, likely before mid April, you will receive a notice of award or turn down. It is possible you are put on a waitlist that can go later, but not a huge chance. Until you get ether award or turn down notice, you are still in the running

My son's classmate heard from her senator yesterday and got an appointment! From Rhode Island
Dang! I haven’t heard anything yet for Maine sadly… but that’s great they’re working their way through the region

If you haven’t seen it, then read it!:) Even better!! Good luck all! A few going out so that’s great!!!

As I assume many candidates are, I am religiously checking my portal, and jumping out of my skin at every spam or un-expected call 🤣 I've also been studying the previous appointment lists, and here is what I've found:

As of 7pm Pacific time on March 30th,
This year (Class of 2028), has 102.
For the Class of 2027, we were at 123 (out of a total of 154)
For the Class of 2026, we were at 133 (out of a total of 164)

What might the cause of this be? Here are the possibilities I came up with: (in no particular order)
1. Admissions is behind on sending out appointments.
2. This form is just less used (mods are probably the only people who could really speak to this, with all that data.)
3. Fewer people post appointments. IDK, privacy?
4. I don't understand some basic concepts of probability and large numbers/ratios that would explain this. (Likely, because I have never taken a real statistics class)

Anyways, maybe I just need to stop obsessing 🤷‍♂️
