I really have no idea. I'm just a stressed out Momma hoping for my son's dream to come true. In the meantime, we are moving ahead with a trip to ND this weekend. I was hoping we would know before now so I could cancel hotel and flight reservations....
This is silly, but one of the challenges of ND is just physically getting there! Once there it is amazing but the flights to South Bend are prohibitive so Chicago+driving makes it a long trek. Wishing your son all the best! He will do great things wherever he lands!

Thank you! We are still hopeful for USNA today!

on USNA webpage, they list NASS as competitive --- that is the fact. When you get it turned down -- it means you are not competitive for this application -- logically it makes sense. Right ?
I think it is competitive, but I have speculated that their decision matrix might include different factors from Admissions. Just speculating....

Probably more of a practice for midshipman. Unless they write a report about really poor character, they won't view that over LORs and what not. I highly doubt midshipman can alter the decision unless it was really in the negative.
Yes - so much of the midshipman experience is preparation - so the opportunities to work STEM camp and NASS are opportunities for mids to develop leadership. My plebe and his friends recently remarked how crazy it is that they could be tasked, as rising youngsters, to lead high schoolers at STEM this summer (they aren't but their classmates are)...and that was the take-away. These are leadership opportunities for them - and any reports they or rising 2nd class and firsties are likely read with that consideration.
