USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Response from admissions said our DD would "theoretically" have a decision by Friday...so we wait. My husband joked they are working through packages alphabetically in true military style! Regardless of the decision, an amazing future awaits. She has NROTC scholarship and has been invited into the honors program at Norwich. Other schools are courting her, and her sister wants her to join her at the Citadel. The frustration of the moment is a good distraction from the discomfort of having her wisdom teeth out a few days ago (perfect timing!). Friday she leaves for a silent retreat with her class. Hopefully, the decision DOES come by Friday, so she can have a beautiful weekend of reflection, to be ready to transition to the next stage of life!

Our DS Plan A v1 was Norwich. They covered all expenses not covered by his NROTC Tier 1 scholarship based on an academic award. Birthplace of ROTC. Great community and alumnus network for sure. And to be honest the best relationship and communication he had amongst all of his options.

It does a little quick, but it’s not rare to see this. My guess is a waiver wasn’t approved for someone or they accepted an appointment somewhere else from a specific slate.
 
NAPS usually doesn’t see movement for a bit. Tends to be slower than USNA. 1, they start later. 2, usually candidates are waiting on ROTC and other SA options. So as 5/1 approaches usually the movement occurs later. Same with the USNA wait list.

MOCs do not call for NAPS.

I mean, there’s not a written rule and I’m sure circumstances change every year

The final week. Decisions and deposits need to be made and doors need to be closed. DS is sitting on the WL for prior plans plans A and B. DEFH move around into Plans ABCD on a daily basis. He has been so busy with school, sports, volunteering and the daily emails and phone calls, working on figuring out what the next 12 months and the next 12 years will look like. He has not stepped one foot onto the grounds of any of his current viable options, he says it doesn't really matter, he's playing the long game. Of course, DS still holds onto hope that the naval academy will pull through. The unknown is so hard my head hurts. I try to remind myself that his choice of military service will likely be filled with much harder challenges, stressful decisions and waiting for news. These are the kinds of kids we need in our military.

Plot twist for DD. She got a call an unexpected call from our senators office yesterday informing her that she received an offer of appointment. We were heart broken last week when she was TD, and today after midnight, the dreaded TD turned to a FQOA in her portal.The lady on the phone did mention a system error, and I'm thinking maybe she was one of the TD that was supposed to be WL. Still processing this, seems surreal, and immensely grateful for this second chance. DD will accept.

DD almost didn't apply anywhere else because of how engaging Norwich staff is. Had a great visit/overnight. The Commandant, Admissions, ROTC contact have been amazing. Very proactive and responsive/professional. So much so, my youngest son registered for their future leaders camp and is looking at ROTC after saying he wasn't even interested in going to college.
