USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Hi all, I just got a call from my senator's office that I received an FQOA to the class of 2028! I was put on the waitlist yesterday so everyone keep up the positive attitude: hurry up and wait!

(I went straight from pending to waitlist offer, portal shows waitlist accepted still, was told it would update by Thursday)
This was me last year almost to the day. Congrats on being the first waitlister off the list! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions - good luck on I-Day. o7

A question about ROTC ( MARINE NROTC), h0w many people are usually able to commission on a 4 year scholarship (e.g. percentage, stats) and what happens if you don't make the cut since ROTC isnt guaranteed commision? Like do you go reserve, or have to pay them back somehow?

OUTSTANDING! Well done!

NROTC Marine Option, if on scholarship, you can drop up to the start of your Sophomore year with no ramifications. Dropping, being removed from the program or not completing any part that is required will result in either paying back the entirety of what the Navy paid for or enlistment to pay back. For any Navy scholarship, Marine or Navy option, its active duty, no reserve option. For Marine Option the big item is completing OCS.

So long as you complete the program, it is a guaranteed commission? And what do you mean by the big item is completing OCS? thanks for answering btw

Yes. NROTC Marine Option goes to OCS. It’s not an easy training. They do prepare Mids well for it. Recommend you use the google machine and find the appropriate websites and do some reading.

Don't NROTC MO go to Quantico VA for OCS not Newport RI, somewhat different atmosphere I would imagine.

Yea that’s correct

Navy OCS (for naval officer candidates who already have a bachelor’s and didn’t do ROTC or USNA) is in Newport, RI

Marine Corps OCS is in Quantico, VA

May the 4th be with you!

Happy to report my son received an email today with a FQOA to the USNA class of 2028!

This was after he was granted a medical waiver (red to green) on the portal 2 days ago. He had also received a LOA a while ago and had a nomination from a VA MOC. We (parents) are not legacies or in the military.

Happy to share anonymized info if that helps others in knowing his stats.

Best of luck to all still waiting to hear.

Go Navy!

Congrats!!! How long did he wait between the LOA and waiver? searching for some optimism....

I think this depends on the reason for the waiver. My DS received an LOA in early Nov. and FQOA came mid April. Waiver cleared about 1 week before FQOA. His wait was due to needing a certain amount of time after surgery. If your waiver is time dependant, that could be slowing down the turn around.

Good luck, I hope yours comes through soon!

I should have also added that once he knew he was within the allotted timeframe (which was mid-March, for him) he gathered all supporting med docs and sent them to his DODMERB case manager. He did not wait for an AMI request to come for them. He said he knew what they would be asking for because there was a way to look it up somehow using the single disqualification code. Once he knew exactly what that was, he requested such documents from his doctor and sent them in to DODMERB. His case manager responded within a day and said they had received them and would have them available for the waiver authority to view. Navy must have viewed them within the next week and his portal changed to waiver granted.

So, in his case, he knew he had met the criteria and took it upon himself to supply to documents that were needed. I'm sure each waiver case is different. But, if you think you'll need to supply AMI that you already have, you might want to send it to your case manager.

I sent in what I deemed to be likely requested, but DODMERB did not respond which is a little concerning.
