Hello! I am attending the CVW from October 16-18? Is anyone else going? I'd love to know!! :) I'm excited but a little nervous at the same time. To anyone who has gone before, what do you do during meal formations? Do you walk with them? Also, how is PT?
    Can't wait!!

I went to the first one in September so Ill try and answer your questions.
For meal formations it was different for each meal:
Breakfast-you just walk with your Plebe to the morning formation where we had some announcements and then it was off to breakfast.
Lunch: My plebe took me and a few others to watch the noontime formation in front of bancroft
dinner: I believe it was just whenever the plebe took you since it was a Friday night (could be wrong), but my plebe had ordered pizza and so a bunch of us didn't go to dinner
PT: was based on who you were placed with and what their PT groups did, in my case we played football for about and 45 minutes and that was it. I know others did some more intensive activities.

From what I was told, PT wasn't on the schedule but you could go if you wanted. Am I wrong?

We typically don't PT you, unless you really want to force us to get up early on Friday if there is a morning workout, and even then that depends on the company, so chances of actually PTing are low. Otherwise, you just eat whatever is on the menu for lunch and/or dinner unless you want to eat at DryDock restaurant in Dahlgren or order, and you watch formation.

I went in October 2013 and I recall only doing PT once early in the morning...it consisted of running outside over to Farragut field, and then doing pushups, situps. The plebes, guided by upperclassmen, wrestled each other. If you got wrestled out of the ring your company did pushups and situps. I remember at lunch we watched a helicopter practice loading/unloading men via rope.

For formations you will stand to the side or back and just watch.

For PT, it depends on the company. Most companies don't have workouts and there is no sports period so it is up to the plebe you are dragging with. I took the drag I had a couple of weeks ago to the gym.

    CVW This Week oct 16-18

Hi.... Just an easy question as a concerned father. My Son has been invited to this week's CVW at USNA. He is very excited. I am concerned because since he has confirmed his participation, he has just received a confirmation form the Academy, nothing else (no forms to fill in, no requests for any additional info). Is that what happened to the other people going this week? It seems strange to me..... Thanks

    MGNC,

My son went in Sept.; that is all you'll get. They do post activities for parents on the USNA website. They will give you (if you are attending; which I highly recommend) and your son a more detailed schedule once you check in. They do a great job in making sure all your questions are answered.

    Good luck!

Also a large amount of the schedule, as far as when/what classes they will attend, what they will do in the evenings and during training time are company and plebe-dependent. Some companies will have morning workouts, a large amount will not. The plebe may have a six-in (full day of classes) or a civilian (no classes- although that is almost impossible as a 4/c). I'd just recommend (to the drags) rolling with the schedule and you should really enjoy it. FYI- the plebes who are escorting you places don't have to chop, so you may be going places (ie meals) in larger groups.

I was invited to CVW as well and unlike STEM a few years ago, there was hardly any information other than the invitation/confirmation! I kinda felt insecure about it as well, since I'll be flying half-way across the country and taking a car service to the yard without an adult. I emailed my regional admissions counselor, and he said that those two things are, indeed, all that you get! Knowing the Naval Academy, however, I'm sure that the process will be very clear/organized upon arrival! haha

FighterPilotHopeful...my son went to a CVW back in March of this year and
just got a call and email for invite. He traveled by himself from CA and a family
member picked him up from BWI and brought him to the Naval Academy.
Some of the airlines have a under 17 policy that will place the traveler in
in the "unaccompanied minor" status and they will see that they get on
and off the plane. To cut down on any confusion, we paid a little bit extra
a got a direct nonstop flight to BWI that way we didn't have to do the parent
thing and worry about a plane change. I believe Southwest goes into BWI.

    CVW Info

For those who haven't seen it, USNA has a whole section on their website related to CVW Info including what to wear and what to bring:

NavyMom19... Thank you for the information! I am flying Southwest and (luckily) their UM policy only covers children up to age 11!

I'm just going to have to be responsible for getting myself around after I land.

Luckily I'm one of the larger 17 year old males, so the traveling risks are somewhat reduced compared to others in this situation.
