I just read over at the ROTC forum that a candidate was offered a 4 year NROTC scholarship, but that he had to accept it before a date about three weeks later. My DS, won't know if he's receiving an appointment to USNA until December at the absolute earliest, possibly as late as February, when nominations are announced (he has a LOA). He's 99% he wants USNA, but would otherwise do NROTC as the back up. So, is this typical? Are exceptions made for USNA candidates? If my son was offered a NROTC scholarship, would he have to decide that quickly, i.e. before finding out about the Academy?
