Vegan/Cruelty Free Boots for BCT??

I was in the same position as you before my I-Day. I ended up buying a cheap leather pair from Walmart. Since then, I've only bought boots not directly from the manufacturer to try and avoid the supply and demand aspect of the leather. You will be issued uniform items that have leather and wool in them. For me, even though I would not choose to buy these products on my own, I think that the impact I could have in the long run is worth these initial sacrifices. Feel free to reach out if you have other questions about being vegan here, I'd be happy to talk.

Vegan / cruelty free boots? Are you kidding? I am going to say what we are all thinking. You do realize your PRIMARY job in the military is to break things and kill people.
I understand where you're coming from, but I was not kidding. My diet has been a huge part of who I am and has also kept me very athletic and light on my feet. That being said, I do understand what I'm getting myself into. Maybe not 100%, as I'm sure I'll learn more as I'm at the academy and continue my military service, but I also understand that sacrifices must be made. What irked me was that I'd be sacrificing my life for the country while still contributing to the slaughter of innocent animals, which felt hypocritical to me. And I know that following my current lifestyle would be rough at the academy, so I just asked as a hope, not a requirement.

I'm not sure if you've found an answer to your question yet but I was able to find a pair of boots that fall inside AFI 36-2903 and the regulation that Full Steam mentioned above. The Under Armour Valsetz tactical boots line seem from the descriptions to be made from synthetic materials and rubber. The descriptions aren't too detailed so I'd suggest reaching out to the manufacturer and confirming whether or not they use leather. I hope this helps and congratulations on receiving an appointment 👍
Thank you!

It’s fine to have your own standards and morals. Nothing wrong with that. When they conflict with what you are ordered to do in the military is when there is an issue. What are you going to do?

If this is something that would cause you great debate within your own moral wheelhouse, you may want to think really hard about how/if you can reconcile these things within your own person.

There is no greater selfless-service I’ve witnessed in my my boys than what they have signed up for. Especially my one that’s in the fleet. And he has only been there a minute, and not fought in a war. Yet. But, he has given up great personal liberties for the betterment of the ‘team’. Some by choice, and some, not.

No judgement on anyone wanting to stick to their moral choices. Obviously some are easier to manage than others. And maybe vegan boots is only a query here. Not a hard line for OP. BUT…I would tell my own kiddo to really think hard about what is important to them. And if they feel that they can fall into the military way of ‘yes sir/ma’am’ without struggling that they are compromising themselves.

You really don’t have a say in much. Including what shots and medications they put into your body. Vegan? Idk. But make sure this is a good fit before you start this adventure, is what I would say to mine.

As far as vegan boots, I suggest googling. You would probably have better luck there.
Yes, this was simply a curious question of if they existed or not, not a beg or plea or a call to question my personal morals lol. I've definitely thought over how being in the military would conflict with a few of my morals, but also strengthen most of my morals. When it regards being a part of something bigger than myself, I know it's about the group and not the individual, like you mentioned about your sons. I understand that sacrifices must be made. Thank you for your insight!

I’d like to point out that vegan leather is a petroleum product. Petroleum is created by dinosaur remain. Thus it is the product of an animal and thereby not vegan. Green washing at its finest!

Actually, "fossil fuels" was a term that a German scientist coined but used by oil companies to make everyone believe that it is a severely limited resource. It is formed from the remains of dead plants and animals so really doesn't have anything to do with dinosaurs.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. My next show TBD.

Dont be afraid to ask questions like this, OP. You never know who may read it and find the information very valuable.

Also, I’d like to add that a lot of vegan leather is made from various plant husks, like pineapple leaves, coconut husks, seaweed, mango husk, etc.

I have vegan/vegetarian relatives. I love animals - and don’t judge others.
