My son's girlfriend is planning to visit with my son this weekend. Both are Christians. They are looking for a place for her to safely stay. During her last visit, she left at midnight and drove home (had to stop along the way to rest) and she knows how unsafe that was to be tired and on the road like that. His sponsor is a single man that does not live close. He has rented a hotel room for her, but son and girlfriend have called and said they feel a bit uncomfortable with that arrangement. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

There's a bed and breakfast right across the street from Gate 1. Flag House Inn. Lovely couple own and operate (son is a USNA grad). She would definitely be safe there. I stayed there for I-Day. Randall House is right next door and the owner is friends with the couple that owns the Flag House (though Randall does have a for sale sign).

    Regards,

Thank you for responding - I will pass this on to them. And, I will remember that for our next visit too! :)

There are plenty of awesome hotels in DTA that can accomodate. My roomate used to just use hotwire.com to find a room when his g/f (now wife) would come up for the weekend. Hotwire doesn't let you choose your hotel but all of them downtown are nice so it doesn't matter. I don't know of any places that cater specifically to Christians. Best of luck.

I'm a bit unclear as to what the problem is. There are plenty of good, safe hotels within easy distance of USNA. Second the hotwire (or some similar site) idea.

I tend to agree. If they're worried about appearances, your son and his girlfriend can confine their times together to public places -- there are lots around Annapolis and he can stay away from her hotel room. If you're concerned about safety, don't be. As noted, there are many safe hotels and B&Bs in Annapolis -- many within walking distance -- and walking around Annapolis, even at night, is generally safe. If need be, your son could walk her to the lobby of the hotel.

Finally, I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks as, first of all, they really don't care what your son is doing because they have their own lives and, second, they'll think what they want no think matter what anyone actually does. The only people who count are your son and his girlfriend and they know what they are comfortable doing -- or not doing.

Thanks for the feedback. I think it is all new to them and they were, in fact, concerned about appearances. He ended up renting her a hotel room, they stayed away from the hotel and chose to go to a park and then to the mall and DTA. On Sunday they went to Drydock and then played cards, etc. It all turned out fine. :)

Cadets at a Service Academy live in dorms their entire 4 years. This is a requirement. They cannot host outside guests in these dorms. They are off limits to everyone except Cadets. Once your son graduates and heads off to whatever base he is assigned to, he can have whomever he wants live with him.

I know this an old thread. Just curious, are midshipman allowed to make reservations at the Navy Lodge?

Yes, in the active duty category, farther in advance than retirees. The Navy Lodge at NSA Annapolis is used to booking rooms with mids for families. They fill up quickly, of course, especially for major events.

The OP who started this thread hasn't posted since 2012. Better to start a new thread when asking a question rather than tack onto one that is so old.
