Wait For It...Wait For It! eesh

I am curious, my son received a DoDMERB DQ (peanut allergy) for USCGA back in January and nothing has changed since then (i.e. remedial request-AFROTC has requested medical remedial for peanut allergy, however). So, my question is will my son eventually receive the TWE, or was his file closed by USCGA back in January?

Thanks

Craig

Thanks for all the helpful information

This forum is wonderful. I wish we had found it earlier in this whole crazy process. It sounds like several CGA appointees are from Texas. That's wonderful. Does anyone know how many new cadets will be in the Class of 2014 (an approximate number)? Also, when you live so far away from Connecticut, do the families typically still drive their cadets to the CGA or ship their stuff there and then fly in? We were thinking about that last night. I don't know if we want to make that long drive, but I didn't know how he'd get all of his stuff there otherwise. Thanks again.

Everything he needs will fit in a backpack....really.

Sports equipment requested by the coach notwithstanding.

No worry, he'll be able to carry it all on his back! (it all fit in a backpack!). CGA takes care of that problem very simply.:shake:

Thanks again. I guess I'm thinking like a Mom and want to make sure he has everything he needs. My son is used to packing light and getting by on bare essentials, so he probably already knows this stuff and isn't planning on taking much at all. I was just thinking about the time I moved into my first dorm at college and the car was completely full! Of course, I didn't have someone providing my clothing, etc. for me.

js3486, I'm sorry that you didn't get CGA but I see that you have NAPS! That's really an exciting opportunity and something to be very, very proud of! Congratulations and best wishes for the future!

momto3-DS got a seabag with shoulder straps and fit everything inside. Packed everything in ziploc bags, rolled out the air and put it in, including his size 11.5 running shoes. Probably was under 25 lbs. Any savings will be spent at the shipping store-pick your favorite because you will be mailing goodie boxes, cookies, etc.:shake: Congratulations!

congratulations! It seemed like the kids with the backpacks had the easiest time with running with them when they are first taken to Chase Hall. Just remember the first rule, which is bring what you are told to bring and nothing else. I did see a few kids with seabags but just so you know, your child will be issued one and will take that on Eagle at the end of the summer. You will have the opportunity to leave a package in a large rolling shipping bin on R-Day, so if you want to leave some snacks, that is a good time to do it. By the way, avoid chocolate at all costs as it is often a very hot day and the bins tend to be in the direct sun. They will move rooms several times over swab summer so keeping things to a minimum is a good idea.

Thanks for the tips. My son already has some backpacks and military duffle bags from CAP, so I think he's set. He's used to rolling everything up in zip log bags and compacting it all in small spaces for long backpack trips where he's living out of his pack for weeks at a time.

I just wish we had found this site sooner - it would have answered a lot of the questions we've had over the last year. I've printed off the parent's guide and just noticed that I won't be able to talk to my son for the first 2 months and probably won't see him again until October or November. He's become an adult and I haven't gotten used to that since he's my first to graduate and leave home. Of course, his brother is graduating next year and we're already going through this whole application/nomination process for him now. I barely made it through this last year and I don't want to relive that process again for another year! At least we'll be way ahead of the game this time!

You'll be able to communicate every day via hand-written letter!

The swabs will be able to use their cell phones at the Mystic Flag Ceremony which takes place in late July (my guess is July 24th).

This will be the first opportunity for you to see them and talk to them since R-Day.

If you can't make it to Mystic, then Parent's Weekend is the next chance, and that is Oct 08-10 this year.

Make your reservations soon!

Nothing in Upstate NY!?!?! The good news is DS went to USMMA for a visit last week and was very impressed.:thumb: Next week is a visit to USNA. We should know by then about the CGA?

Animal73us and Rocky33,

Keeping all our fingers and toes crossed for you!!!!!

Nothing in Connecticut today! I'll be patient though :). I hope all of that documentation and interview stuff that was sent in back in January helped.

Please don't take this the wrong way....

I'm very happy that some of us that post to this particular thread have had their young men & women rec appointments but please post on the "swab to be" thread about what to bring and hotel & flight arrangements....:frown:

Some of us are still waiting for ANYTHING from USCGA and it's a very stressful time as I'm sure everyone is aware of....

Keep supporting the few that are still waiting...this forum is a HUGH asset to all of us :shake:

From the bottom of my heart...I wish all who have rec'd appointments a safe and wonderful journey...

Yankeefan, fron1530 and disey3,

Wanted you to know that I am still hoping and praying for you!

Nothing in CT for our son yet either. I suggested calling his admissions officer to get an update and his response was, no I'll get a letter when I'm supposed to get a letter. Now how did he learn to avoid instant gratification when his Mom hasn't!!! Guess I need to learn a lesson from him.

Congrats to all who've heard good news and prayers for all the rest of us still waiting.

hsjude...feel your pain...feel like getting in my car and driving to USCGA and ask "What's Up?" Son keeps me grounded when I remember to breathe...LOL!

Nothing here today...then again there's always tomorrow!

hsjude,

Keeping hanging in there! Went to church this morning and said a little prayer for all those still waiting!!
