Wait For It...Wait For It! eesh

Heard in NJ...My son is wait listed!!! Whew, thank goodness thats over! Now onto....more waiting...I'LL TAKE IT! My son is thrilled to know he's still in the game.

So now the questions begin...Does anyone know how many kids end up on the wait list and how many kids, on average, are normally taken? If they do not receive appointments this year, do they get preference when they reapply the following year?

Congratulations to everyone who have been wait listed! To all that haven't heard anything yet...keep positive thoughts, its still not over!!!

Upstate NY: Letter came today offering DS a spot on the WL. Not sure on what the chances are on getting an appointment from the WL? Hey Luigi, does he get bump up to the front of the wait list if his parents own an Itailian Bakery?? Check out on facebook Dolce and Biscotti or Dolceandbiscotti.com We can keep you supplied with cannoli !:shake: Well its onto the "Who's on the WL and what have you heard" thread. :thumb:

Flygirl, fron1530 and sunshine2014 congrat on making the wait list :thumb:

Nothing again today in Wisconsin so we are still waiting but not with the same enthusiasm you guys are.

There is still Hope!

Daughter received letter waitlisting her. She is ecstatic that there is still hope! Whats a little longer...it would be worth it!

Now the questions really begin...

How many are waitlisted? How long until each of us finds out? Ooooh boy! :shake:

Congrats to all waitlisters and I'm keeping all those who haven't heard in my prayers! Some of us kept praying for our son and our family...now I'm doing the same for all who wait! May an answer be at your door by Monday! :thumb:

Just got the CGA waitlist letter today in Houston. Looks like son is going to accept the USMMA offer. Great alternative! Hang in there everyone and congrats to those accepted!

Still haven't got the letter in CT, but by the sound of things, seems like itll be a waitlist. Still hoping though...

Congratulations to all those waitlisted!!! The journey is not over!! Wishing you the best of luck...hang in there a little bit longer!

Wait list in Idaho

Just got the wait list letter here in Idaho, very excited there is still hope. Looks like we all get to update our files with the latest and greatest grades and letters since February 1st. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate looks like so far this year? Good luck to all..

Nothing in Colorado....

Probably need to update:

By April 15: Regular Admissions decisions received by applicants

Got letter in MA - Appointment offered ! whoo hoo !! - thank goodness the wait is over - Keep hope up to all those that were wait listed - our thoughts and prayers are with you - there is still time for an offer as things shake out.:thumb: Thanks to everyone for the support this forum has provided through the process.

First and only post. We waited long and hard for the TWE. Very happy for those who made it, but think the USCGA overlooked an excellent candidate. We were really hoping for at least a chance at NMMI. Sadness in this house tonight.

I'm certain decisions were tough.

AFliss - It was a long wait to get that disappointing letter. I sorry that your news wasn't more positive, but remember that your plan B school will be very happy to have you and you can reapply next year. I hope everything falls into place for you.

Cress22 - Congratulations! There are many on this board that wish they were in your shoes right now. It's wonderful to know that the BFE are still being sent and your hard work was rewarded by receiving one.

Fly Girl, Sunshine2014, ynot12, fron1520 and Being Patient - :welcome1: Welcome to the CGA Still Waiting Club. Hopefully, this list will be shrinking in the coming weeks. Best wishes to all who continue to wait.

Congrats! Cress22!! :shake: :thumb:

Shoreside....like the name "CGA Waiting Club!" Now we have some MORE waiting to do together! :thumb:

If I had an admissions vote, I would accept the bribery and bootlicking and cast an affirmative vote for your son. Mangia Bene!

Seriously, the wait list has been set up differently over the last two years.

For 2012, there were TWO wait lists: Group A (30 candidates) and Group B (120 candidates). When (and if) they filled completely from Group A, they would then go to Group B and start filling from that list. FYI - they never got to Group B, shellz can confirm as I think her son was in Group B in 2012.

Last year (2013), that changed. They only used one list, and I believe it had about 40 people on the single list. Only "full" appointments are coming from that list, CGAS (prep) appoints do not.

  • The earliest "wait list" candidates were notified last year around May 8th, and the latest by May 15th.
  • Wait list candidates are CALLED on the phone.
  • The appointment package (BFE) shows up AFTER the call.
Admissions expects an answer (accept or decline) quickly. Although they will give the candidate 2 weeks to decide, they would appreciate a decision MUCH sooner as a "decline" can then go quickly to another candidate.

  • Yup....I do remember, Luigi. We languished in Group B, with a tiny bit of hope, until June 1st. Now mind you we were realistic, being in the second group, but we did keep hope alive.

I'll say it again, for anyone who might not make it off the WL....that extra year was HUGE for our son. He got to try a new sport, did well in classes at the CC which mirrored 4/c year, retook the SAT with an improvement of 100 pts, and in general just grew up a bit. Mom and Dad enjoyed having him home a little longer too. Fast forward 2 years and he is doing well at CGA, couldn't be happier with his decision to reapply, and he is less than 3 weeks from finishing his first academic year at CGA. (and chomping at the bit to get back on a boat this summer!)

Crossing fingers and toes for everyone who waits! :thumb:

when?

Nothing again in the mail today (Saturday) in NY. It is not looking too good at this point. My son's admissions officer responded to an email late last night saying a decision was mailed to our address earlier this week and that we would hear soon. That does not sound very encouraging but we are still keeping faith.

Congratulations to those appointed and wait listed -- continued prayers for all!
