Wait For It...Wait For It! eesh

Friday (Everett, WA) DS waitlist. He remains excited :thumb: (and realistic). Congrats to all. Hope to be in New London in late June...

Still no mail here in CT. At this point it's more frustration than excitement that I feel when I go to the mail, haha.

mail

DD has been wait listed and will be declining. Off to USNA. Good luck everyone.

If I had an admissions vote, I would accept the bribery and bootlicking and cast an affirmative vote for your son. Mangia Bene!

Seriously, the wait list has been set up differently over the last two years.

For 2012, there were TWO wait lists: Group A (30 candidates) and Group B (120 candidates). When (and if) they filled completely from Group A, they would then go to Group B and start filling from that list. FYI - they never got to Group B, shellz can confirm as I think her son was in Group B in 2012.

Last year (2013), that changed. They only used one list, and I believe it had about 40 people on the single list. Only "full" appointments are coming from that list, CGAS (prep) appoints do not.

  • The earliest "wait list" candidates were notified last year around May 8th, and the latest by May 15th.
  • Wait list candidates are CALLED on the phone.
  • The appointment package (BFE) shows up AFTER the call.
Admissions expects an answer (accept or decline) quickly. Although they will give the candidate 2 weeks to decide, they would appreciate a decision MUCH sooner as a "decline" can then go quickly to another candidate.

How can someone who is wait listed be possibly chosen for one of the prep programs? Please tell me that is possible!!

I believe all the CGAS appointments have been offered.

I don't believe any additional CGAS appointments will come from the waiting list.

However, that is NOT an official answer, just an educated hypothesis.

ANYTHING is possible. :thumb:

so am I hearing that things are in this order - CGA appointment, prep school appointment, wait listed, rejection notice? Also, if wait listed what are you waiting on? an appointment or a prep school appointment? This is all such unfamiliar territory!!

Luigi – bribe makes it sound so unethical. Think of it as “an appointment with benefits”! :shake:

However, more information leads to more questions; are the total number of appointments overbooked with an anticipation of some turning down their appointment?
If so, any idea what the overage is? If not, then is it one offer to the wait list for every appointment turned back in?

Just heard from Luigi & here's what he had to say....

"When I spoke to Admissions yesterday, I was told that all full appointment offers have been mailed.

They are also actively mailing out "wait-list" letters and rejections.

Appointments go out via USPS Express Mail (2 day max service) so everyone with an appointment will have a letter by today or tomorrow.

Non-appointment and wait-list letters go by regular US Mail so that may take a little longer, but NY is no more than 2 days max time for a First Class Letter, so my guess is TODAY is the day you will find out either way.

(I do have a new list of all the Prep School/CGA Scholars appointments, but no additional appointment info has been released to the AAP network as of now)"

Hear's my reaction........
Okay, that calmness I told you about is officially gone!

How do you get a list of prep school or CGA scholars offers?

I am also an Academy Admissions Partner.
Even if you had access to the lists it does not tell you the order of the wait list. It goes by state.
Unfortunately, this years list is very long with almost 30% more applications for the Class of 2014.
I would advise all of the applicants on the wait list to make sure they have a Plan "B" in place, admission this year is extremely competitive this year.

In anyone's opinion, despite the competitiveness of this years class, will there be some appointments from the wait list? Also, if I accept my appointment to USMMA which is due prior to May 1, can I withdraw if an appointment is offered to USCGA after May 1?

Yes there are always appointees that decline their CGA appointment so I am sure there will be some picked off the waiting list. And yes you can decline the MMA appointment if you get one to the CGA.
