Wait listed

I'm sorry, njshoreclassof2019..But while I may not agree on all things with Maplerock, he is expressing opinions and engaging in argumentation. That's OK isn't it? While it might be "nice" if we all had the same opinion, it sure makes for a very boring world. If you don't like what he said, engage and counter him. I, for one, would prefer he stay and continue fully participating instead of clamming up and going away because you don't like his tone.

Opinions, even those of dissent, are certainly allowed. Personal attacks are not. This thread has been fine so far... I am sure it will stay that way. Actually threads like this happen every year at this time.

Since waitlists are going out is that where we are in the process between now and April 15th?
If you are CPW the next option is being waitlisted ?

@ northshore... As someone who lives and breathes USNA literally, the comments that Maplerock are just that his opinions and he has contributed to these forums for some time... I believe its better to have him than not as he has different views than some and dead on for others.

You want to know about being fair, Ill give you one that is strange. I have been accepted to various Ivyies and most likely will go to Yale as Im still CPR at this time. I look at it like this, got accepted to Harvard, Yale, Cornell and UPENN but still CPR. Should I not get USNA, Yales gain and USNA loss!My back up plans are dead solid. Im not going to compare my stats with others as it is a useless game of trying to decipher USNA Admissions thinking maybe if you had a Cray--lol. As a family that has sponsored MIDS for years, Ill tell you the stories most of MIDS tell us, they are humbled for the privilege to come here. I cant tell you how many plebes that we meet during PS (we go to Mass at the Academy) and listening to them. My mom is a grad '85 and offers encouragement to some of those that thinking of quitting, none have so far! Being wait listed is NOT the end, it just presents a different door/path for you or your DS/DD to travel. To all of those still on island, CPR and or wait listed good luck!

Maplerock if you are looking for an argument I will not be a part of it. The fact is 13 males left and 0 females. You may draw the conclusion you wish.

Yes, I was at I-Day with my daughter ('19) and saw many great young men and women, Tall, short, large, small, male, female...all with the same goal become a Navy/Marine Officer.

Concerning the CFA/PFT standards is it fair that the Football players are not mandated to run they have the option to ride a bike for the CFA/PFT? IMHO they all should be treated as one same standards for all. but that is only my opinion. BTW my daughter did 8 pull-ups and I know some males in her company did not even come close to her. Not saying she is better just able to excel at something different than others.
My 115 pound plebe daughter also did 8 pull-ups. I sure didn't see any boys carrying any girls bags. I also know she beat some of the boys in wrestling class. My favourite quote from her this year was, "you may be too tough for plebe wrestling if you leave class with a perfect bun." Those 2019 girls were all tough as were the boys. My daughter has endured a severe case of pneumonia, a staph infection, and cysts that had to be drained many days in a row. She never complained and has excelled academically, mentally, and physically. All of the 2019 plebes are tough and an inspiration to all! I can't wait to hear about Sea Trials and get to watch Herndon! Go Navy Boys and Girls-they both deserve all the respect in the world.

Thanks Alex. I mean no harm, and tell it the way I see it. I should learn not to mess with a Mama Bear... especially if she has a female cub.

Maplerock....I have hardly ever posted on these forums, but have found them very informational through the years. I have to say that I have never seen quite the tone of your messages from anyone else. You are clearly disgruntled with USNA and probably should not be associated with it. Your prejudice is clear, and there is no room for it in the Brigade or anywhere else for that matter!

Well, I'm not as PC as most. I too, have been around for years, and my home is decorated to the rafters with USNA gear. I'll put my dedication and support of Navy up against anyone, especially someone with a handle bearing 2019.

And since my intent was never to offend, this will be my last response in this thread.

I believe all of the women who attend one of the academies are tough, gritty, very capable, and worthy. Although things are obviously changing, the military has historically been a man's world, and it takes courage and moxi for a woman to jump into it and then succeed. For those of you who have daughter's attending a SA you should be extra proud. I may or may not have issue with the current admissions methodology, but I have no issue with those tough young lady's who challange themselves for our country and then serve.

Amazingly, my son was waitlisted although he has nearly perfect SAT scores, straight As at his competitive high school, star all-state runner, taking calculus BC and AP Physics 2 this year and earning As; wants to study engineering; lots of leadership and extra-curricular activities, TWO nominations from an extremely competitive pool; no medical or any other issues....makes me wonder who the heck they are picking!

It does make you wonder! Our DS' profile is similar. Unfortunately he didn't even get wait listed he got the dreaded email TWE .

You are allowed to wonder, just not share your concerns or conclusions. It makes the sensitive folks sad and edgy. You are only allowed to conclude that all those who were admitted, including those who make up the designated percentage increase for certain classifications under the latest "admissions objective", were better candidates under the current measurable or "immeasurable" admissions standards than those who have been denied admission.

I'm hoping that was tongue in cheek as I didn't draw any conclusions. We recognized going in it was a numbers and shells games. We might not ever know why some candidates that walk on water are turned away and others who are mighty fine swimmers but not water walkers get in. As someone who has conducted job interviews for years it is sometimes that immeasurable something, that feeling you get in your gut that sets someone apart.

I don't pay much mind to the sensitive types who think everyone deserves a trophy. It only diminishes true accomplishments. I commend those who got appointments and wish them well. But I also won't diminish the accomplishments of those who didn't. To quote my son's college counselor "You need to recognize your plan B, C and D are some kids dream schools, something that most cannot achieve. You need to acknowledge that your years of hard work have given you the luxury of choice." I'm guessing that the candidates that made it this far before getting wait listed or a TWE are all pretty remarkable! Under a different panel the results will always vary but these are the results for this class, the results we move forward with. But, I would not say they were necessarily better or worse candidates, and don't apologize if it makes someone angry.

As I've said, my DS had phenomenal plan B's and he will do great! We are blessed and fortunate!

Exactly. Too many possible variables: Perhaps someone on the AC misinterpreted negatively a benign statement in a LOR; perhaps the applicant's file came up for review late in the day when a couple of AC members were in a hurry; perhaps the football coach was hot on a particular applicant and they had to make space. Sometimes best not to over-analyze the Admissions Sausage Factory.

I would also add this: there are many more successful people in the world (and probably the Naval officer corps) who didn't attend USNA than did. It's a process of discovery on both sides of the ball. I would also point out that one year in to college, most kids find that 95% of their friends chose the same school! Life is long. You can probably slip a playing card between the appointees/WL/CPR top to bottom at this point. Small solace, I know, but good luck to everyone.
