Wait Wait Wait...and MORE Wait

Nothing here in California. The wait continues until Monday mail rolls around.

TWE in MA. Off to S.C. for Bioengineering in Columbia.
Tough...a few deep breaths, decompress ,enjoy the next few months now that I can plan. Then...get back at it for next year.

The twe's are killing me! That's awful I wish you all good luck next year. I'm still waiting here in RI

I'm so sorry for all of those who have received a TWE. Please strongly consider reapplying and always keep the dream alive. How much could one value an accomplishment or dream if it was easy to achieve? The best things in life are difficult to achieve, which is what makes them so valuable. Does anyone know if the TWEs were mailed out together before the BFEs, after, or at the same time?

Still waiting on NROTC update. I heard the board met on the 8th with decisions going out 2 wks after (not sure though).

Would most likely do anyway but a couple of other programs on the table as well.

Still regrouping I guess

Take some time to get over this rough patch. I'm sure no matter what you decide to do it'll be great. Remember that if being an Officer in the Navy is your ultimate goal then putting it in perspective what's one more year? Some would surely prefer to experience a year at a civilian college before attending a SA. You might be able to have your cake and eat it too! anyways, chin up

TWE came today in western NY.

Ive got 2 choices and I can't decide:

1. enlist marine corps
2. Community college
3. Illinois Institute of technology / Boston University

(Ranked in order of cost. Economy hit us hard, if I choose 4 year college I will be inundated with debt)

Im still looking to be an officer in the marine corps, so perhaps OCS after 4 year college.

I'm very sorry for the news. Is there ROTC at any of number 3? If there is then you might want to consider reapplying while doing NROTC for a year. The majority of Naval Officers did not graduate from the Academy keep in mind. There are so many ways to get to where you want (Marine Officer). Do you mind me asking what district/where you are from in NY?

DS received TWE, record perfect 2 for 2. His USNA road is over. Class of 2016 application is not an option. He loves his school/NROTC Battalion and will have 82 credit hrs end of sophomore year (IB and summer college credits). With great education and NROTC he will succeed in fulfilling his dream of becoming an US Navy Officer and Aviator.

I guess sometimes things just don’t work out. Year 2 app followed advice of SAF sticky note “reapplying” and without question was stronger than last year. Strong ACT score, 2 noms, great grades (all A’s one B) in plebe like classes , ranked second NROTC, after HS career #1 rated 4 yr IB school in US, class president, 8 varsity letters blah blah blah…..just like all the incredible SA applicants.

We respect the USNA admissions process and understand their task is incredibly difficult and ultimately gut wrenching for many. DS was over qualified for NAPS (2yrs), and knows he successfully completed a very rigorous college academic year hoping to prove worthy of an appointment. Without belaboring the perceived and often discussed admission issues which continue to befuddle many, we just are just plain old fashioned disappointed. Was TWE due to bad timing, wrong area, not competitive, wrong background…appointment reduction for re-applicants… bottom line DS re-application just wasn’t good enough to earn an appointment this year. Which is OK, he did his best and that is all anyone can ask. It is what it is, time to continue moving forward. We are very proud of DS, he is living and loving plan B….actually plan A since last year TWE.

For all who received TWE, be proud of your accomplishment, look forward, embrace and make the best of all of your opportunities.

I want to sincerely thank this forum, moderators and fellow posters for the excellent advice over the past few years. SAF is a great library of information and a good source for a few laughs, support and tears.

Good luck to all, especially the TWE’ers and the Class of 2015 appointees and beyond.

Our country is in great hands with all of our amazing kids!

GO BLUE!!!!

grtkidmom, so sorry for you and DS. Your graciousness is touching. Thanks for sharing all that with us who are still waiting. I'm not so sure I'd have it in me to do that. I'm happy though to hear that DS is OK with all and I do feel that there's a reason for everything. Good luck to him and his future. With a mom like you, he must be awesome :).

WOW, GRTKIDMOM! You have a wonderful attitude! Admirable! We would not have the patience or desire to do this USNA process another year. Too much politics involved - Recruited athletes, minorities, prior enlisted, NAPS - Too many slots automatically filled by categories that my son does not meet, although he is as athletic, smart, and personable (oh, and did I say handsome?) as any kid you will meet at USNA! The NROTC process seems much more fair to kids who have what it takes from competitive areas. He will be happy wherever he goes to college, so I am hoping that he won't give any more thought to the Naval Academy! With two noms and a family that has served more years in the Navy than I can count right now, the USNA application process was disappointing. I used to enjoy tailgating at the Academy football games, but I am not excited about that idea anymore.

grtkidmom...so sorry that your DS got the TWE. Especially for the 2nd time around. Sounds like he is well on his way to achieving his goal..just in a different way. Good Luck to him in all he does.

Just wondering for those that have received TWE...when did you complete your file for the academy. I know there is no method to the madness, but was just wondering

grtkidmom

your DS deserved better, especially after demonstrating his desire the 2nd time around.....if the USNA doesn't want kids like him I'm concerned....

The ring alone can only take you so far. Best of luck to your S during his next two years and his future in the Navy.

After the first TWE did you inquire about the areas in his application that he needed to improve? I ask because a TWE arrived hear as well and was told via email that there were no weaknesses in my S's application. That seems like a contradiction. A denial must be preceeded by some weakness unless they use a coin flip to determined appointments.

With the looks of it, I feel like it is safe to say that it is only TWEs that are being sent out...
If it doesn't work out for me I am hoping to do NROTC at Villanova..

I'm speechless... thats an amazing resume. I received my TWE for the first time, and this seriously makes me want to reconsider my first plan of reapplying. Good luck to you and your DS.

Well spoken grtkidmom! I think you spoke for most of us even though it was my DS's 1st time applying. Good luck in the NROTC program!

Grtkidmom, I was really grieved to read your post regarding your DS' TWE. You have described a most awesome young man. He followed his dream and did everything he could, especially in reapplying. He was totally the type of young man our country needs as a future leader. I am thankful for him and your family that he has a great Plan B, now Plan A! He will still become that great Naval aviator that he is desiring to be. None of us can take away the pain that you and your son are feeling right now, but we are all feeling it with you! Romans 12:14" Rejoice with those who rejoice , and weep with those who weep." We'll be praying for your DS, as he sucessfully moves forward in NROTC.
