Waiver Denied

I just checked my DoDMERB portal and it says my USMA waiver was denied. I was surprised by this because everyone I talked to said my waiver would be approved almost for sure, especially West Point. I never had the chance to submit AMI, including a letter from my doctor which he just finished and I was planning on sending in. This cannot be the end of my West Point application. This 'condition' affects me in no way. It's pretty discouraging, though. What should my next step be?

Please, if you have any information or advice, tell me. I would greatly appreciate it.

If you don’t mind me asking what was the condition, I’m pretty sure some are automatically disqualifing

See OP's prior post who stated "I was DQ'ed for high-frequency hearing loss in one ear (very minor btw). "

You could try to appeal, but you should look up your specific condition to find out more information. Usually for an appeal, you need new information, but if you hadn't yet submitted your doctor's letter, you could include that. You can also write a statement yourself on how the condition does not affect you and does not impact your ability to serve in any location, does not put others at risk, etc... I'm not sure whether the waiver authorities really consider personal statements or not, but if it is geared toward the DODMERB concerns, then perhaps they would.

It might be a precursor to a degenerative condition? I know that’s why my parents are concerned by my eyesight, since my dad has keratoconus.

Who are ‘everyone I talked to’? Bc posters here wouldn’t give you that assurance. I don’t see that they did in looking at your past posts.

This is a good example for readers, that no one can offer assurances of outcomes from the medical review process. One persons outcome is not necessarily the next persons outcome.

BGO’s are advised to not discuss medical, at all. Its off limits.

OP I’m sorry you are going through this. The only thing I can think of, would be to make sure the results you obtained are actually factual results. Test again. Perhaps you were congested? And if you have differing results, send those in.

Good luck to you!!

My ENT submitted the letter last night, and the waiver denial appeared in my portal this morning. There is almost no way they reviewed the letter before they denied the letter, so I am worried they will never review the letter. Should I contact my regional commander in order to ensure they saw the letter before they made their decision?

Couldn't hurt to do so.

I have a question. You said especially West Point? Did you speak to someone there about the waiver? Just asking because I was under the impression that the waiver process is blind to the candidates until a decision is made (unless AMI is asked for).

No, people were just saying West Point is more likely to give a waiver. I don't know if that is true at all but it is what I heard. I hope it is not.

Oh, I understand. I misread what you meant. Good luck to you! My DS is still waiting.

UPDATE: The waiver was denied yesterday morning and AMI was sent in the previous night. Is it possible the medical board reviewed the entire packet of AMI that was sent in and made a decision by 9am yesterday morning? I feel like there is no way they could have reviewed the packet yet, and I worry that it was sent in with the worst timing possible, since they may not have viewed it and since it was sent in before the the decision, it may not qualify it for another evaluation. What should I do? I have tried contacting my case manager many times but I do not think he knows what I am asking. I reached out to my RC and am hoping for a response soon, but it said he will be out of the office till the 18th.

What should I do? Is there anything I can do?

The board doesn’t review your AMI your case manager does, mine did it within the day
