Walk in clinic for exam?

The clinic my DS is assigned to for the medical exam told him it is just walk in for that kind of appointment, no appointment necessary. They did look up his name when he called so he is in their system.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Do we put the date we plan to go into the DODMETS system?

Also, the clinic is two hours from us. We are in a rural location, so I’m sure that plays into it.

Thank you!

Many DoDMERB clinics also do double duty as walk-in urgent care facilities. I would make sure they know you are traveling from far away and see if they make an appointment for your DS.

Two things to remember:
  • Make sure they know and understand that DS is there for DoDMERB.
  • No matter what they say, Do NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DS's HEALTH INSURANCE INFO. They don't need it!

My two kids were also assigned to a walk in clinic. Both physicals were completed this weekend. We put the date they were planning to go but then had to change one because of an issue with the dodmets website. We are about 1.5 hours from the clinic. We were there for two hours for one physical and 1.5 hours for the other. Most of the time was spent in the waiting room. So the physical is complete, on to the eye exam which is also a bit of a drive but we were able to make appointments for that.

Thank you for the responses. He called back after making the optometrist appt., explained the travel situation again and they gave him a set time. Persistence!

DS is also having his physical at a walk-in clinic and he called them and they said there are no appointment times. Just come on between 8am and 6pm. Since he is 17, I have to go along and I am hoping we aren't going to sit there for hours waiting to be called. He is also having problems completing the medical survey due to the additional orthopedic information form. Anyone else having a problem? He cannot complete or print the form.

^^^^ You may have troubles accessing the site, that AROTC-dad graciously provided the link to, with some browsers due to (I think) certificate issues. Some browsers (eg MS Edge) have an "advanced" section on the error page with a link that allows you to proceed anyway. If you click that link you should get to a DoD page where you will click "continue" to get to the PDF file. Whew. Sometimes this stuff isn't easy.

DS went to a walk in clinic for DoDMERB but they had specific time slots when the DoDMERB qualified / trained examiner was available.

So just be very clear that this is for DoDMERB and make sure there is no issue with specific personnel etc.

DS' clinic was in downtown Detroit and appeared to get 80% + of their business from employment drug testing.

And the first exam they did not do the 'sitting height exam' [eg use a tape measure] required for USAFA. Had to go back; not a short trip and not a happy Dad that day.

Welcome to the world of low bid government contractors.

That explains it. I have never used Windows 10. :D
