What’s next? Still no response from NROTC-MO

DS portal has not changed, no response after writing to interviewer, no letters, no calls

Anyone have any insight on what might be going on? Have to assume the quarantine has had some impact, but I see others being notified about various other scholarships.

Assume this is for the 4yr. My DS application was very late to report he was not selected on the website and no one ever called until very late. I've gleaned that this is common.

I would encourage him to proceed with plan B. And if that involves the College Program route, look at the process for applying (unique to each school) and take action. He is right in the middle of the season for this.

Don't assume he will be admitted to the unit, they don't bring all applicants on board. So this is his first chance to make an impression on the unit leadership. Be squared away and enthusiastic. They will be making recommendations for the Sideload process at the end of the first semester.

Remember this is not a scholarship... it is a 4-year long job interview and training program. Also remember my DS's MOI first communication that I heard... "Remember someone is always watching you." True of the application, true of fooling around on campus.

It probably goes without saying but...

Make sure DS goes to a school with NROTC.

Point of reference from last year — My DS was informed via email from OSO on 13 March 2019 that he was not selected for 4 year National Scholarship. Seems very late for your DS to have no information. 2nd ref point — Marines ran this year's sideload board for college programmers earlier this month and results are out.

As stated by others, as with my son's case in 2013, proceed with alternate plans -- although it is hoped that those plans were already in motion. Generally speaking recipients are notified early and have been notified by now. One common thread over the years is that those that didn't get the scholarship may possibly not be notified.

I see that your son has contacted his OSO or possibly recruiting district XO about the status of his scholarship.

He needs to ensure that he's enrolled in a school that has the NROTC program in order to compete for a sideload.

+1 to rocatlin. It's time to execute plan B. If you're pleasantly surprised by news later you can address changes then.

Just a word to lurkers: When in a situation like this, or any time I need to make a decision when I'm unsure, one of the questions I ask myself is "If I'm going to err, which way do I want to err?". Clearly here I want to err on the side of making sure I've got a plan in place. If something changes later I can adjust then. But that's just me. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir, but I've met many young folks who don't think this way. I didn't when I was young either.

@Aaron22 - after doing some more research - I think the portal change that you posted (after the 2nd Board met) is the response from NSTC. My guess is that the email or mail notifications are delayed with the current COVID crises. I know your DS was reluctant to call, but you could reach out to the MOI at his #1 school and he/she could give you confirmation either way. Best of luck to your DS!
