Also, what are the exercises? In the Marine Corps, a perfect score was 20 pull-ups, 3 miles in less than 18 minutes, and I think it was 100 situps in two minutes.
How much weight does it carry? If a candidate, maxes those, has a high GPA, many EC's, but does not do well on the SAT's will they really be looked at?

You can find out at the usna.edu site under Admissions. They talk about how to take the CFA and give the max time/reps -- after which you earn no additional points. They advise not to do more as you won't get a higher score and will tire yourself out for later events. Those are the max scores for each event.

Maxing out on the CFA will help you overall. But it won't make up for poor SATs.

USNA typically focuses on the pullups and run sections of the CFA. Doing well in those can earn you bonus points in the application process -- just as you get bonus points for being a team captain, an Eagle Scout, attending (and doing ok at) NASS, etc. It all adds up. But it's not some sort of "super multiplier."

The best way to make up for poor SATs is to take advanced level (AP or honors) Calculus, Chemistry, English, History, and/or language and earn As or Bs. This, not a great CFA score, demonstrates that you can handle college-level work like you will find at USNA.

USNA wants to ensure you can succeed academically and athletically at USNA. The two really aren't interchangeable. All things being equal, a great student who does OK on the CFA is better off than an OK student who excels on the CFA.
