I am a USAFA mom and want to send a care package to a USNA plebe. Keeping in mind he doesn't have transportation, any suggestions on what restaurant gift card to include? Subway is the only option at Air Force.

We're spending the weekend in DTA w/ our youngster - with regard to national chains, there's a Subway, Starbucks and Jimmy John's on Main Street. DS said Papa John's delivers to the yard and mids get 50% off.

King Hall ordered Papa Johns a bit too often the last three years or so. I developed an extreme aversion to Papa Johns pizza. Don't know if it's still the case now.

Yard Card is probably not what you're looking for, but it is nice. They can use it at the Mid Store and Drydock. All you need is an alpha number to deposit money.

If I remember correctly, Subway doesn't deliver. I'd go with Starbucks, Moe's, or Jimmy Johns.

Assuming you know the Plebe...ask her/him what s/he likes?

Jimmy John's. Kilwin's. Mission BBQ.
From a quick survey of sponsor mids at our house tonight. They are tired of Papa John's, because it's everywhere. They all said to ask mid or his family. Things like Jelly Bellys or favorite non-perishable stuff.

You don't even need the alpha number - if you call the Mid Store to put $ on someone's Yard Card, the staff can/will look up the Alpha #. (Though they do prefer you have the alpha number)

You might want to give the Iron Rooster a call. When we were there for PPW, I think I remember seeing that the I.R. had gift cards/certificates. Their chicken waffles are very popular, as are the giant pop-tart style pastries. They serve breakfast all day, and are just a couple of blocks from the Yard.

Wait until November 1st & buy Halloween candy @1/2 price-Gummi Bears, for example:) Lots of good clean fun! Fuel for midterms...

Mine wanted jelly beans. Why I don't know
Also there is a good coffee shop in the Nimitz library that a lot of mids like. They might have gift certificates

We've sent a couple of 'stimulating' care package items that have been greatly appreciated by our plebe and his company-mates: caffeine gum and chocolate-covered coffee beans.

Thanks for all the suggestions! This sure does help when trying to make a care package special. I am giggling about the jelly bellies, that's a favorite of my Air Force Cadet. I have them shipped direct from Costco.
