I am just beginning my second semester of my junior year. I have requested information from the Naval Academy. At what point should I submit my initial application? ...or at what point should I embark upon the next step in the admissions process?

I'm in the same boat as you man! Incase you did not know, the summer seminar (NASS) app opens up on Feb. 1st. Can't wait to apply, and hear back. By sending in an application for NASS, there is no need to send a preliminary application (in April), as the application for NASS serves as your "preliminary app".

hope this guides you in the right direction...

Do you plan to apply for the Navy Summer Seminar (NASS)? That's a good place to start! Also, get hold of your MOC office and begin the nom process now ... their web page should give you the info you need in order to get that started.

Alright, I now see that you can begin submitting the initial application after April 1st.

I currently have taken neither the SAT nor the ACT. Do I need to take this and have received the scores to put on the initial application? What is the date at which the applications must be submitted?

Also, at what point do I begin the request for nomination? And when I do, do I just send out letters, per the example on Senators/Congressmen's websites?

Sorry for all the questions. I just don't want to allow a deadline to pass. Thanks for the answers.

MOC deadlines are set by the specific MOC so you have to get on their web page & find out. Their requirements will be on their page as well. Typical deadlines are early/mid fall of your Sr. year (for MOCs). Also, go check out the VP nom process and your Senators - be sure to apply for them as well. Most require essay(s), transcripts, letters of rec, SAT/ACT, resume of qualifications etc... MOC staffers are typically very wiling to discuss this process with candidates. Most truly enjoy the nomination process & you can probably pick up the phone & call directly with the staffer responsible. Many MOCs have an "academy day" in the fall - call yours & ask - and attend if they do. Now is a good time to get started.

If you have not yet taken either the SAT or ACT, I suggest doing that as soon as possible. The general rule is to take them early and take them often. Your scores will usually improve. Often students find that they do better on one or the other of the tests. So take them both. And prep for them! Work through a good prep book and take practice tests. Be sure to read the explanations for the answers!

    Good luck!

First step is to apply for the summer seminar, which opens up Feb. 1st. You will use your PSAT scores on this, if you have not already taken SAT or ACT. This will show them your determined and are really interested in the Academy, thus increasing your chances of an appointment the following year. It is also a good time from what I have heard.

By applying for the summer seminar, there is no need to send out a preliminary application on April 1st; as your summer seminar app serves the same purpose. The only thing that I would do, and infact am going to do is update my app by calling admissions in April.

    hope this helps

-Sign up for NASS beginning 1FEB at 12 a.m.
-Sign up for the May/June SAT and ACT test (at least take one of them around then)
    -Do well in school
-Call up your senators and congressman expressing your interest
