Stay positive you guys still out there. You need to get very good at waiting for when your DS/DD actually does get that appointment. Examples:
1. That 10 days or so at the start of INDOC where you don't hear from him/her. You have sent twelve letters and have gotten zero back (of course you know they are too busy to write) and you are convinced they died but no one has told you yet.
2. Sea year where depending on what ship they are on you may or may not have regular communication. I guess it's somewhat better now, but when my DS was on sea year I would go for weeks not hearing anything. It was pretty stressful waiting to hear when he was crossing through the Suez Canal during the Arab Spring. I was convinced I would next see him on the evening news as a hostage of a bunch of pirates or some infamous terrorist. Now THAT kind of waiting is hard.
3. Waiting for grades to be posted to see if your formerly straight A student DS/DD will pass physics 2 or terrestrial navigation or any of a number of other impossible classes.
4. Waiting to see if they pass their license exams and get to ring that bell and actually graduate after everything they have been through.
You will be much better at waiting than those other parents of KP midshipmen whose kid actually received their appointment in January. They have almost no practice waiting and will not be nearly as good at it as you are!!
