Are all mids issued Yard Cards or does one have to request it? If the latter, how?

You should receive info on the Yard Card in the PTR. Two years ago, IIRC, we went to the website in August and loaded the card for our Mid. I think that was the earliest it could be done. They had some sort of special promotion so that if you put a certain amount on the card, they would add an additional 20 or 25% at no additional cost.
I think everyone is issued one, but obviously it's only good if it has $$$ on it!!

Forgot to mention that in order for parents to put $$ on the Yard Card, you will need your Mid's alpha number, a 6-digit number that is unique to them during their time at USNA. First two digits are the class year, e.g., 16xxxx. Your Plebe will have this number committed to memory by the end of I-Day, since they will have to write it on every article of clothing they are issued throughout the day.
