USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

Are prep school or scholarship offers done by district and or state as well or is it sporadic?

DD received an appointment letter for USAFA c/o ‘28, pending medical on 1/29. Medical DQ from DoDMERB 2/12. USAFA initiated medical waiver process on 2/13. No request for AMI/AMS, and no decision rendered as of yet. We are getting very nervous because USNA requested AMI almost immediately, and DD wasn’t even accepted (and had not received a Congressional nomination)! Is there still a chance? Is it possible that they won’t render a decision at all and she’ll just stay in limbo?? Every person we ask in Admissions and at DoDMERB says it’s out of their hands and they cannot provide any updates, or refers us to the other. Mainly just venting, but any thoughts or experiences would helpful if shared!

Looking at the appointing list, people are talking about “admissions said that c/o 2028 is the most competetive class they have had in a long time.”. It’s really odd cause I have heard this about Virginia Tech as well when I applied, and many of the nominations sources I got correspondence from said the same thing about their respective applicants. Why is there such an uptick in competitiveness I’m not just USAFA, but across the board in general?

DS's FFR told him the same things about class of '28 at West Point and our congressional district.

My father's friend had a similar situation with his DS. She was appointed to USNA pending a DoDMERB clearance and received a waiver very late in the process (June). She was officially offered appointment a few weeks before I-Day but was unable to accept it as she already had chosen USMA as she had no other options at the time of commitment day (May 1st).

I think it's probably easy to explain with the non-SAs due to extensive test-optional policies and widespread use of the Common App. But neither of those explanations apply to SAs. The truth is that SAT/ACT scores are trending downward, probably exacerbated by COVID closures, etc., so I don't know what would cause increased competition at the SAs.

I do think there’s a lot of kids that have improved their SATs post covid. Some of my DS’ friends in NoVA who are very smart kids were either rejected at UVA or waitlisted at VT. These kids have >4.0 GPA and >1200 SATs. I follow VT admission insta and there are a bunch of kids and parents commenting their waitlisted or rejection status with their stats.

Well for added info I am a NOVA kid and got into UVA, didn’t apply to VT, and had those stats that you indicated of above gpa and SAT but I chose to go test optional. I agree though I had a lot of friends myself who had way higher scores than me and many of them faced rejection and waitlists. For reference though my friends didn’t go test optional and my ranking was high so that might have been a factor. I think for the VA state schools, and I heard VT does this, they compare you with people at your school instead of just the overall applicant pool.

Back in December I was asked to do a body fat percentage measurement because I was just outside of USAFA standards. My measurements put me at like 18.5%. Just a smidge over USAFA requirements. I was told I would here decisions about wavers in Mid March. I have heard nothing. Is there anyone else in this position?

New member. This wait painful. I know this wait is starting to get to my son, but he doesn't show it. My son has a 5.1 GPA and received 2 nominations. He plays a sport, and is in the wind ensemble. Does anyone know if there is another waive of appointments coming, or should He just start concentrating on plan B at this point?

Don't lose hope until USAFA sends you the rejection letter and if that is the case move on to plan B. My daughter is graduating in May and I remember what you all are going through. When she applied she received one nomination to USAFA and two to Navy. Navy sent her the rejection letter around February but nothing from USAFA. Our congressman posted the names of who he nominated. We are friends with one of the families who's son was on the same list as our daughter for USAFA. He was a recruited athlete and had very high ACT scores (35) and straigh A's in high school. The couach had told this individual that he most likely would get his nomination through the congressional process and we new that this was the only nomination he received. She had an ROTC scholarship and was accepted to Virgina Tech so that was plan B for her. We sent our deposit to the school expecting the rejection letter knowing the back story of our friends son. He did receive the nomination from the congressman and accepted. They called us to tell us the good news for their son. The very next day in my daughters portal she received a Falcon Foundation. Not sure if this was just a coincidence. She accepted the FF and this was one of the best decisions for her. She reapplied the next year as a FF and now is graduating as part of the class of 2024 with a Systems Engineering degree, minor in Chinese and got her job drop of pilot. Good luck to all of you
