USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

Gotta be honest - my biggest question at this point is did EVERYBODY get that LOI/LOE? It seemed like such a big deal at the time but it seems at though it was sent out to everyone who had an app completed. Thoughts?

In my opinion, as I know people who did not receive the LOI, it is somewhat exclusive. But I also believe that many many many people did receive one. I would take it as a good sign and work hard on nomination files.

Good luck.

Just remember that in this group there is only a relatively small (and individually driven to search for information) cross section of the entire application/candidate pool, so to see a high percentage of anything in here is not necessarily indicative of the wider community. Any letter from an SA encouraging you to continue or complete your application is a strong signal that they consider you to be competitive for appointment. It's a lot less work for the admissions team to just move on and not send these out so it is still "a big deal". Not a guarantee but certainly an encouraging step as the far greater number of applicants hear nothing at all.

My DS recieved one as well.

Nope! DS did not receive one. He completed his application in August and had DODMBERB/CFA qualification in early Sept.

I don't expect to hear a peep from USAFA until an appointment or TWE because that seems to be the way of things. Best of luck to you and all c/o 2028 applicants!

Another student at my school is also applying to USAFA and he didn't get it. Kind of a little surprised because his stats are great. I know it's about more than that, and the LOE doesn't mean much in the long run, but still surprised.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an appointment before Thanksgiving?!? I know many last year who got their decision mid-November. DS app has been fully complete with a Presidential for a month...fingers crossed for everyone!

Mom of a USAFA cadet and a hopeful 2028 academy cadet/mid - LOA's seem to be most often given to recruited athletes, I am aware of a few who have received them and aren't recruits, but that seems to be much fewer and further between. Keep in mind that even with an LOA, they still have to successfully complete DoDMERB, receive a nomination, and also successfully finish senior year.

seems like a lot received an LOA from this forum. Congratulations to all who did receive an LOA! Maybe someone who received an LOA start a thread to list all those who received LOA/Appointment. Happy for all of you! Its good to hear so soon from USAFA. ;)

I wouldn’t combine LOA and appointments.

Leave one for appointments only. If you think one is needed for LOAs, create a separate thread.

Just my opinion.

Concur. One for full offers of appointment, and the poster can list any LOA if desired, per the usual annual appointment thread practice.

Since most cadets and midshipmen did not receive LOAs, it might create unreasonable expectations and anxiety to see a list the majority of applicants won’t be on. The goal is always the offer of appointment.

We have often speculated here the relatively small data slice of reported appointment offers is somewhat skewed, because it does seem LOA mentions show up here more often. I think the applicants and supporting family members who are leaned far forward in scouring the internet for competitive advantage tips are probably also applying those techniques to other aspects of the applicant’s journey to an appointment. They may find SAF as part of that strategy.

For the DoD SAs, typically 10-15% of the incoming class size find SAF to post appointment offers.

I think you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure out the logic. My DS didn't get an LOI/LOE and his application had been done for a while and he passed his CFA, and cleared DoDMerb. Then he got an LOA last week? I would think that if they liked his application that much, they would have sent him an LOI/LOE?

Personally, it helps me to think about an LOA this way... Is my candidate at any risk of not choosing USAFA? On all fronts, nope. He's clearly aiming right at USAFA in his background/interests and isn't "at risk" of being wooed with full tuition offers be they athletic/academic/otherwise. He's a solid candidate that would be thrilled beyond words to receive a letter of assurance, but it seems reasonable to me that a class building tool would be wasted on him.

My son asked me to "chill" LOL. He already received Type 1 AFROTC HSSP. He is set on USAF whether AFA or AFROTC. I guess I am more excited than him! Go Air Force!!

Hello! Brand new to posting here but I have been stalking the threads for a few months. My son has completed the application process and has all the green checks. Now we wait with our fingers crossed! I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who does post regularly as it helped us a ton through the application process...it is definitely NOT for the faint of heart!! Good luck everyone!
