USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Expecting a TD today but still pending. Yesterday a pretty high SAT Marylander got TD, we are trying to beat him to earn the Maryland title and then show those in VA --- which state is more competitive on USNA application -:)
It makes me wonder why some candidates with stellar stats received TD and not placed on Top 150 QAs. I know its WCS but academics get a big chunk of WCS. One posted being TD with SAT Math = 800.

Any other Minnesotan's here still waiting?
Still pending. DS received a letter in error last week, called admissions to let them know. He received a call back this week saying MN has some very competitive applicants. It sounds like the decisions will not be easy.

If you look at West Point doc the class is built based on diversity of skills -- academic, athletic, leadership etc all kinds --

I don’t believe scores play into WCS as much as people might think. More weighted than others of course, but there are a ton of factors in WCS. Doesn’t take away from the fact that an 800 math score is extremely impressive. The reality is that if academics and SAT scores drove the ship that hard, then you would have an entire Brigade of Midshipmen with 4.5 HS GPA’s and 1550 SAT scores.

Yes I know that but academics have the biggest percentage. There is a possibility that those with stellar academics have low scores on leadership and athletics which made the admission board to give a TD. No one knows exactly what went in place for those decisions.

No one from our area in VA is out of the pending status yet. My DD’s high school typically has 3-4 kids go to USNA. This year there are 4 who have applied and they are all still pending. She is friends with others in our area with crazy stats and every one of them is pending. We are ok as long as everyone else in our area is stilling pending but wow this is unsettling.
What size are these high schools that they have 3 & 4 kids a year appointed. There have been four in our senators district in six years. That’s unreal to me.

It must be. Good luck to you.

We were told during admission briefing in WP that academic scores indeed play a big part in WCS. We came to know one candidate with stellar athletic and CFA scores having an “at risk” status during the initial phase of the application because his GPA and SAT were low. He was advised to improved on academics esp SAT.

Anyone in Pennsylvania get an appointment or turn down yet? The only appointment I’ve seen here was an athlete to football.

Agree, it seems like academics are everything for USNA.

It is true West Point is very much on academics ! DS was offered an LOA purely because of his academics.

Ours is 1,800 total for the school and we send 3-4 a year to the DoD Service Academies.

Pretty small school. I think 120 graduates this year. It’s a private Catholic college prep high school. My middle one had three (and they were all girls!) two years ago. But we have a huge naval presence.
