DS’s BGO, not AC, was on MOC’s interview panel.Participation in a Congressional interview of one of "their own" candidates is absolutely not allowed by USNA Admissions for BGOs. Actually, a BGO participating AT ALL on the nomination side is supposed to get approval from their Area Coordinator and are told in no uncertain terms that they may NOT participate in interviewing someone for the MOC that they already interviewed or will interview as a BGO.
GO HOKIES!!! Great Plan BJust got the turn down email. Thank you all on this forum for being along for the ride. I am glad to say that I am now committed to Virginia Tech in the Corps of Cadets doing NROTC on my path to become a naval officer. I am currently undecided if I am going to reapply or not but I will keep my options open by filling out the preliminary application and taking the June SAT. I'll still be around the forum and I will definitely give updates on my time in VTCC for those who are interested in it as a Plan B. Good luck for those waitlisted or pending and Go Hokies!
My AC didn’t even have candidates assigned to me when my own was a candidate. I appreciated that. USNA takes this very seriously.Participation in a Congressional interview of one of "their own" candidates is absolutely not allowed by USNA Admissions for BGOs. Congratulations on VTCC! Everyone we know who chose that path loved it and are now amazing officers! You will thrive! Go Hokies!Just got the turn down email. Really? I thought it was a little strange the Area folks were involved, but the personal BGO or FFR would be inappropriate I would think.DS’s BGO, not AC, was on MOC’s interview panel.
This is impressive. Is he planning on swimming at WP?
Academics and leadership are two important attributes. For students/cadets/midshipmen GPA, test scores, transcripts (known as academics) reflect learning skills/ability, logic, reasoning, critical thinking --- we often refer as wisdom. At the CVW we went to, a midshipman said:"Academics will not beat leaderships".
Wisdom is more heavily tied to experience than just book smarts.Academics and leadership are two important attributes. For students/cadets/midshipmen GPA, test scores, transcripts (known as academics) reflect learning skills/ability, logic, reasoning, critical thinking --- we often refer as wisdom.
A bad example is someone has the leadership to run a campaign to become the leader of a country but he/she does not have the wisdom to run the country.
I hope West Point teaching leadership differently. It is not about which is more powerful or important (to beat or be beaten), it should be more how to become a leader who is smart enough to lead.
I am a BGO and sit on a MOC panel. My area is outside of the MOC area except for homeschoolers. Sometimes I have one doing a MOC panel. I leave the room, let them ask the questions and abstain from their vote. Like I said it rare, but all above board.Really? Spot on. 'Leadership' is thrown around like there is some definite definition. Not true. I have no doubt your son will shine at USMA. Wishing him the best.Academics and leadership are two important attributes. So you're not sitting on one of your own candidate's boards, like the poster suggested was his/her case?I am a BGO and sit on a MOC panel. My area is outside of the MOC area except for homeschoolers. intellects + experience = wisdom ?Wisdom is more heavily tied to experience than just book smarts.
She said an occasional homeschooler, and she recuses herself from the room and doesn’t vote on those. So you're not sitting on one of your own candidate's boards, like the poster suggested was his/her case?
I'm honestly not sure what to think about this. If there's a separate process for nominations, why have BGOs, FFRs, ALOs sit on those panels at all? If it's for efficiency, lack of personnel, I get that. But when some folks question the process, especially on unranked slates, there's this gray area that can only be defined by 'intangibles' in a world that is supposedly defined by a concrete whole candidate score. Those don't mesh and aren't, at all, transparent.
The poster before her said his/her personal BGO was on his/her panel. She said an occasional homeschooler, and she recuses herself from the room and doesn’t vote on those.
That is how it is done. I wish judges held themselves to this same standard.
My mistake. I thought you were questioning NavyHoops. The poster before her said his/her personal BGO was on his/her panel.
I'd have zero problem with BGOs, FFRs or ALOs sitting on any panel as long as those kids weren't asked to rank their preferences, by anyone at anytime in the process. To be honest, they probably know best about who should be offered an appointment. My mistake. I thought you were questioning NavyHoops.
My son’s BGO didn’t sit on his MOC panel. It wouldn’t have mattered to my son if he was. I don’t think it should be allowed.
Virginia Tech ROTC is so solid. Wishing you all the best!GO HOKIES!!! Great Plan B
Yes! USNA and USMA should offer club swimming for kids like your son who are solid and could swim on the collegiate level. I cannot figure out why they don't - there are several established club programs within a reasonable drive to Annapolis. Obvi on the NCAA side the Army/Navy rivalry is huge for swim and dive. 2022 was the first time in like 30 years that Army beat Navy (men), then this past season Order was Restored upon USNA's victory at an extremely close meet. I was chatting with a WP parent who said the WP Class of 2028 swim recruits is super-stellar - I had not been tracking your previous posts but was wondering if he was one of those super-stellar swimmers. Both USMA and USNA are D1 -- you have to be some national level, like in age group cut off time (AAA, AAAA). DS may be good enough for D3 or some D2. His last swim competition was our state high school swim champs two month ago, he had one event place at 4th. He is done swimming for himself but he has been coaching young kids since last year. Too bad West Point does not have club swimming otherwise he would love to participate.
