Its also time to do everything to secure "Plan B." I really can't stress that enough. My son had two nominations to USNA, GPA over 4.0, 5 AP classes, star athlete, tons of leadership, 30 ACT composite (32 in Math) great interviews, an uncle who was a USNA grad, he maxed almost every category of his CFA and not a single diciplinary or legal matter in sight. He was put on the waiting list, and never did receive an appointment to USNA (No prep or foundation offer either). I'm not sharing this to make anyone panic, I'm just hoping my words will make others take the effort to make sure they are covered no matter what the outcome.
With the economy being what it is, with diversity effects, with politics...you really cannot count on a thing until that darling mailman hands you that BFE.
Even though we were just sure he would get in to USNA, we still completed his application to USAFA, NROTC, and some other schools...and it was really tempting not to! Just writing this is making all those feelings of stress and exhaustion come rushing back! I can't tell you how close my son came to not even completing the USAFA app.
Time is a funny thing. Thank goodness he also had two nominations to USAFA. Here we are a year later, and he is prosperous cadet at USAFA; great grades, IC athlete. Things really do happen for a reason, and now I believe he is where he belongs...but if you had told me that last spring when we were waiting for that USNA BFE...I would have ripped your head off!
Take care of Plan B!
