You want to know the worst thing about snow days in GA...no mail delivery for the second day in a row! Now who am I supposed to stalk?!
Why does the south get so many snow days? It isn’t THAT bad to drive on.
While driving on snow isn't that bad, with no snow removal equipment in neighborhoods or secondary routes, it quickly refreezes at night and turns to ice. The hill outside my house has at least 1" of ice on it. It's been hilarious watching people try over and over to get up it. Yesterday someone finally got out there with shovels and chipped away at it. Driving on ice is not worth the risk to our personal vehicles, and it's certainly not worth the risk with buses full of little children.
This picture says it all: http://berglundj.wordpress.com/2011/01/12/snow-and-ice-in-atlanta/
It's all perspective- When I lived in Northern NH near Mt Washington- they were appalled at all of the days off that the "flatlanders" (southern NH) and Massachusetts got for snow days. And here in Massachusetts- it's appalling to me that Boston got out of school today in addition to yesterday while 30 miles west of Boston- back to school for all those happy teachers and school kids.I hadn’t thought about that. Up here in MA salt or sand is on any ice within a day. I was half kidding, but thanks for the clarification Because closing school for an inch of snow has always confused me.

Heh, I'm about 30 miles north of Boston and we got the day off again today. Not complaining, but compared to when we lived in Colorado, we get off a lot more time here then I've had before. I do agree on the DC/Baltimore area being horrible with snow; last year was incredibly funny in a sad way with how my family in the area (dad's at Walter Reed) dealt with snow just because they don't know how to handle it compared to other areas of the country
