  • Son rec’d an appt and had an overnight. I read your book but other than McDonalds or sponsors, what do plebes do to get away? Do cadets ever get X-Box, TV? I have a 2nd Class at USNA so we get time constraints but we know they have to get downtime. His plebes were not happy. Most were flunking Calc.We were told they get 4 hrs a night to study but plebes said they get an hr. He came away with a gloom factor.Thoughts?

My plebe is on a team. He has a blast. Found a way to get many passes. Some companies have allowed video games. The experience is as rich or as miserable as you choose to make it.

PS: it's not a corps squad team...so not as intense.

Also, they don't all fail calc...mine has an A. Depends if they study and get extra help.
Hello! I want to thank you for your kind words in the thread yesteday, I shared your words with my parents as well and they loved it. I just saw that you'd written that book, my stepmom ordered it last week and it should be here any day! How cool is that?
Hey...I noticed you have written a book for moms and my wife's birthday is coming up soon...you mentioned a revised edition for 2019...is there anywhere to get that at this point? Thanks, we are trying to get as much info and we can...

I'm glad it got there! Dads like the book as well...in fact, it's for anyone who is an info junkie and just wants to know what's going on. =) I think we have mutual friends in Bham...Gina Cox said she knows you all and highly recommends the shop. =)

Sorry...just seeing this. I hope you get to Birmingham soon...we would like to meet you.

We are both enjoying the book...I'm certainly the info junkie...
I'm trying to figure out how to use this forum so I can ask you some questions. Sounds like I will need to get your book soon. I understand the service obligation to be 5 years. What about if you are able to be a helicopter pilot? Does that make it longer? I read somewhere that to get into the program some have to give more than others for service obligation.

Pilots serve 2 additional years because of the amount of training involved. If you want you can PM through this site or send me a message via facebook: Lisa Browne Joiner.

Also, are you on the West Point moms facebook page? you need to join.
I noticed you icon is "The Mom's Guide to Surviving West Point". I just read it and even read parts OUTLOUD to my boyfriend. Even though I hope we are heading to Kings Point, your book has been very informative and helpful. I keep thinking about your 5K walk as I am on the tread mill. My DS is struggling with the CFA and I have tried to get in shape and pray while "keeping my nose out" of his, already stressful struggle. He has an LOA from USMMA. He is my last of three children and "letting go" is particularly difficult. Thank you.
Hello, I just wanted to take time to thank you for your posts. The advice and answers you have given helped me prepare for R-Day... if preparing for something so emotional is possible. I have had time to talk with my son since he started and the first week was the toughest. But now, he is having the time of his life. It's hard, but it is everything he expected and even more.

Again, I just wanted to thank you for the posts you have provided. It did help be prepare for this great time. Now, I look to A-Day with great anticipation.
