Two thumbs up on this flick- go see it if you get the chance.
Can't wait to see it. Unfortunately the movie hadn't made its way to the Eastern Shore of MD theater near my parents, but it's on my list.
If you haven't seen Gravity in IMAX 3D.... DO IT!
I haven't been so stressed out in a movie, in a LONG time.

Are weapons aloud in international waters? I was wandering the same thing. Great movie!
I'm sure the MM or CG people can answer better, but some ships do have weapons, while most do not due to liability and safety issues. These are merchant sailors, and most of their parent corporations do not want to encourage gunfighting on the high seas.

Easy answer is no.
The IMO (International Maritime Organization) put out a circular with regards to arming merchant ships.

Captain Phillips is an idot. This was confirmed to be by more than one person who has actually sailed with him. I have heard its not a half bad movie if you can get past the hollywood fluff. I myself choose not to see it because the whole event was not about one man and yet the title of the movie seems to suggest it is. This feed into the false narrative that Phillips himself played along with even though he knew it was untrue. I have better places to be with my precious movie time.FYI Captain Richard Phillips was in violation of MLL policy at the time. MLL policy was to remain 600 miles off the coast of East Africa.
And what pray tell whould port city laws have to do in the slightest with vessels in international waters? Since you were only the Coast Guard you might not realize this but the answer is NOTHING!Comes down to port city laws, safety issues and liability (and insurance).
an unsupressed weapon is loud no matter where it is fired. Unless, of course, like the proverbial tree in the woods there is no one there to hear it. But if no one was there to hear it, who fired it? Now I understand ... you must be a liberal then who thinks guns can kill people without anyone pulling the trigger. Are weapons aloud in international waters? I was wandering the same thing.
