I was awarded the NROTC MO scholarship on the early board. Here are my stats:

Academics:
3.5 UW 3.6 W
1210 SAT
Math: Precalculus
English: Honors or AP all four years

Athletics:
300 PFT (24 overhand pull-ups, 127 crunches, 16:17 3 mile)
4 years XC (2 captain)
3 years track (1 captain)
Top varsity runner, freshman most improved

EC’s:
Boys State
Debate VP
Young Republicans President
Summer job, work weekends
VP of 501c3
Roughly 300 service hours

I’ve been declined from every one of the 5 schools on my top 5, including my assignment school. All the other schools that I have been admitted to do not offer NROTC.

What are my options? I’m meeting with my OSO next week, should I bring something up then?

Thank you all for your time and help.

Many times, state flagship universities have very late application deadlines. I would quickly look at some of these universities that have NROTC programs, call the NROTC units there to insure they have slots for NROTC/MO scholarships and apply there. You can then work with HQ to have the scholarship transferred. You could also reach out to one of the NROTC programs at the 5 colleges where you have been declined and see if they have any pull to have your admissions reconsidered in light of your scholarship. You still have options, you may just have to be open to the other college options that are still available to you. Congratulations on your scholarship award!

Totally agree with the advice by @USMAROTCFamily to reach out to the schools that declined. Not saying it's for sure, but they will definitely want to know in case you were a border-line decision. Also, of those schools, the less selective ones are more likely to respond to this and possibly change their decision so keep that in mind. Finally, there are schools still taking applications. Take a second look at the NROTC site to see which schools have units and then cross reference against those that are on rolling admission basis. Good luck to you!

We don't have all the info, but something doesn't smell right here.

Your numbers are solid and your EC's are above solid - excellent, in fact. The SAT could be a bit higher, but most schools are relying less and less on the SAT. You should definitely be competitive for most in-state public flagship universities outside of California, Michigan, VA or NC.

Either:
a) you applied for super-competitive STEM esp Engineering programs, where the competition is fierce and is largely driven by scores & grades, OR
b) you did not apply to STEM programs but applied to super-competitive schools, OR
c) you applied to moderately-competitive schools that didn't like something they saw in either your essays or your ECs are both.

I hope it's not c), but in the current political climate, I have to wonder whether some super-politicized admissions officers saw red (as in red flag/red-you-know-who-supporter) in your Young Republican activity and your 501c3 organization. That organization's not connected to guns or breitbart.com, is it?

Again, hoping this is not the case, but something clearly doesn't smell right here.

Find the list of NROTC MO schools and start looking at their application end dates. Apply to any and all of them at this point that you can apply to. Contact the AMOI at these schools and let them know you put in a late app and have received a 4 year. Just a quick intro email should open the gate for a convo and they should let you know if they have any influence with admissions. Call the AMOI at the schools you got denied from and politely ask if there are any recommendations on an appeal. This will take some work on your part, but it’s a challenge of persistence at this point. Good luck.

He may have applied only to Ivies. That's not the mistake. The mistake was not applying to some less competitive schools with an NROTC program as well. If he had it would simply be a transfer request.

Thank you so much for your time and insight! You have essentially outlined my game plan!

Thank you so much for your time and insight! Checking late deadline day schools isn’t something I thought of before!

a & b) I applied for econ or quantitative econ, depending on the school
c) My dad thinks it’s C... Personally, I attribute my lack of acceptances to what I had control over: my test scores and grades. If a school didn’t like my politics, that’s their loss. Ideological diversity isn’t easy to come across these days.

Thank you so much for your time and insight! This seems to be the game plan. I appreciate the detailed advice!!!

I'm beginning to think OP left the building since there has been no reply since the initial post. Oh well! A lot of good advice down the tubes without even a thank you.

So sorry for the late response! Haven’t checked the forums until just now. Everyone’s been such an amazing help. I seriously appreciate it and will check more frequently (I usually don’t get this many responses!) and keep you guys updated! Thanks again!
