I got an email about a half an hour ago from Wings telling me I was granted a Type 1. I’m a bit confused because they said results would come out on the 12th (next Friday). Has anyone else been emailed results? I haven’t had time to check the Wings site.

I was also just offered a type 1 this afternoon via email. However, I checked the wings portal and my status had not yet changed. Not sure why I got the email before the 12th either. Congrats on the scholarship!

My DS was also offered a Type 1 via email tonight. Congrats to both!

DS was awarded a type 2. Got the e-mail about 6:30 eastern

I just checked Wings and the offer is there for me. What a surprise! Congrats to all scholarship recipients!

First off, Congrats.

Believe it or not many moons ago the majority of recipients found out on the DoDMERB website before the official email. They would log into their DoDMERB account, and all of the sudden it went from AFROTC candidate to recipient! It is a loophole that they have since closed. IOWS, it was a glitch and so as they figured out the right hand was not talking to the left, they corrected it. My guess is that next board the results will come down via both portals/access at the exact same time.

Now, for reality. Don't get comfy.
1. You will have to do your DoDMERB unless you also applied for an SA and you have already done it.
~ Get your medical paperwork in order. Recipients can get tripped up in this area, and if you do, a waiver can take weeks to months to clear up.
2. Don't be STUPID, IOWS don't take crazy risks.
~ Playing FB, fine, but when the 1st snow fall comes, hooking up an inner tube to the back of a friends truck...is CRAZY. Yes, several yrs back there was a kid that did that, with disastrous results... broken leg/pins required, starting a whole new DoDMERB.
~ Speeding tickets. Texting while driving tickets, which now they need to report.
~ Senioritis! You will have to submit your final grades at the end of your school yr. 1 F can create issues, especially the stress of "will they revoke my scholarship" Your college will ask for those final grades too.
3. DO NOT ASSUME a type 1 or 2 = USAFA top tier
~ Many USAFA candidates apply for USAFA as plan A. Type 1 and 2 is a true feather in your cap. HOWEVER, HQ AFROTC does not talk to USAFA boards. AFROTC is national, beginning to end. USAFA is geo centric, than goes to national. There are many posters that do not get a scholarship, but an appointment, and vise a verse because how the board system works for each commissioning source.
~~ IF AFROTC is plan B, than keep updating your SA packet until they close it out.
~~~ Also before you ask posters here the tried and true question of IF I applied for USAFA, what happens if I accept the AFROTC scholarship, am I locked into AFROTC? What if NROTC offers me a scholarship? PLEASE, PLEASE use the search tab. There are tons of threads. Short answer. Yes, you can accept the scholarship bc it is not binding.
4. Keep working out
~ To activate your scholarship next fall requires you to pass the AFPT within a week of starting school. Believe it or not some do not pass on their 1st go. Be it incorrect form, or not practicing during the summer, it happens more often than you may think (again use the search button). Either way that is not the 1st impression you want to give to the unit.
5. Most IMPORTANT...finances
~ AFROTC scholarships are known as 2+ 2. Not selected for SFT they can dis-enroll you from AFROTC/revoke the scholarship. Think about if you can financially able to afford the school without the scholarship.
Enjoy this moment, embrace it, but remember unlike those have yet to be boarded, you are only on letter C in the alphabet because you have a golden ticket currently. Z is commissioning. F-M is DoDMERB. SFT selection, AFSC boards. Nobody at your AFROTC det could give a rats arse if you are scholarship. The slate is wiped clean the minute you step foot on campus.
I am not trying to be mean, rude, unkind, unsupportive of this great accomplishment. I am only trying to illustrate embrace it, enjoy it, but just like your last win for your HS team sport you participate in, that last win, was that last win, you now need to move onto the next opponent.
Thank you for wanting to defending this great country.
Aim High Above All.
My account was updated on wings on and now the scholarship is available for me to accept. However, it seems that one must already be accepted to college in order to accept the air force scholarship. Would somebody please confirm if this is the case? Thank you all and congrats to those who received their scholarships.
Hi, congrats to the scholarship recipients- would any of you be willing to post your stats/majors etc. thank you if you can !
