USNA Class of 2023 Do-It-Yourself Appointment Thread

So using my pain in the *** parent analysis ... there won’t be many LOAs left in April that haven’t accepted or denied their appointment.

So there won’t be too many colorblind waivers needed! ;)

Except that this forum doesn’t represent the entire population. Only some people are on here. It’s really guessing.

I have aged 5 years worrying over this for DD. She is cool as a cucumber and has a backup plan in place. Congrats to all. Lots of appointments remain. May they go to the best of the best. Go Navy! Still hopeful! It ain’t over yet.
I am right there with you anxiety through the roof !! But as I learned very well during my time in the Marine Corp...Hurry up and wait. Fingers crossed and still hopeful!! My question though is there a time limit for one to decide to accept before it could be offered to someone who is certain and has dreamt of this opportunity there whole life?

My apologizes Sir. The photo has been removed!

“Sir”?… Wait for it…
Screen title CaptMJ! I was in the Marine Corps and you should always respect an officers title wether still in or not. My son is a candidate and even if it were him he was raised in a Marine Corps household and it’s always Sir and Ma’am in this home, in school, to his boss etc. it’s a sign of respect. So unless instructed other wise ranks, bosses, teachers, authority and parents (or older family members) will always get a Sir or Ma’am!!

I believe "the wait for it is" because Capt MJ is a Ma'am

Now, now. The thought behind the courtesy was appreciated, if off by a chromosome.
Off by a chromosome?? I am a Marine Corps Veteran and so is his father. I am the 4th generation to serve our fine country my son being the 5th. So why when I his parent come with respect do you have to insult my intelligence simply because I posted a picture of my son? CaptMJ are you still in service? You are on a thread for USNA your post are representing the USNA (I have read them) and by saying someone is off by a chromosome is completely disrespectful, unprofessional and unbecoming of a Officer.

Wow! Someone needs to brush up on their genetics. This was so harmless - and nice.

Got it but there need to disrespect when no disrespect was intended. I came out of pure respect.

I had no idea she was a she. I have a niece w a rare chromosome disorder where she is missing a chromosome and is blind and partially deaf so by saying off by a chromosome that’s the first thing I thought. I don’t creep on people’s profile to know she was a female Capt. When I served there were very few female Officers so excuse me for believing CaptMJ was female

I get that now but I do have a niece whom is blind deaf and mentally delayed because of a missing chromosome so to me it was kind of a stab at the heart strings because she struggles daily and will never be able to live a normal life. It’s heartbreaking. But thank you for being kind!

As a teacher of students with special needs I understand the defensive nature of your post. I believe this was a simple misunderstanding. Again, best of luck to all.

Don’t recall the deadline. I have read that they anticipate a certain number of declines. DD plans a career with The USMC. Thank you for your service and the service of your family.

DD was awarded a full USMC Scholarship and a supplemental academic scholarship to a large public school. She hopes for an appointment to USNA. All will be well, I just know everything she has done these past 4 years has been with the goal of appointment to The USNA. But she knows it’s tough.

My daughter is one of the undecided. I have seen this thought posted numerous times the last few weeks by various posters... "They need to decide fast so the spot can go to someone who really wants it." While I don't know everyones position on being undecided, let me offer some insight to hers. First, like everyone else this has been almost a year in the works. It was a uphill battle with little time to actually think she might get the appointment. The reality of leaving everything she knows in life for the unknown has taken a bit to sink in. Second, she does not have the benefit of growing up in a military family. Her experience of SA's is limited. We have asked her to wait until after her CVW next month to make a final decision. I believe she has earned the right to make the best decision for her without regard for the "next person waiting." As has been said multiple times on this forum, the SA's and (N/A/AF) ROTC scholarships make allowances for a certain number of declines.
I don't think a 17 year old taking a few weeks to make a decision that, at the least, affects them for the next 9 years of their life is selfish or wrong. If I were betting, I would bet on her accepting but I will never push her to make the decision quickly or lightly.
