Time to throw in the towel

My admissions counselor emailed me yesterday and said:
“Your file is complete and it was sent to committee for evaluation and review. The class is nearly selected but we’re still fine tuning it. It’s pretty unlikely at this point that you may receive an offer. It’s really a waiting game now with candidates finding out their status by April 21st.”
Does this mean it’s over for me and I just haven’t received a TWE yet?

Yeah that sucks. Seems like that applies to all of us who haven't heard back yet, they just have a few appointments left and already have most of the class they want. I appreciate the honesty tho and we can focus more on plan B.

Look at the amount of appointments released in April for previous years, still plenty of time, and with the virus admissions may be experiencing some delays. Don't get discouraged.

I’m pretty sure it’s been a waiting game this whole time. What’s another 3 weeks? Stay strong!

The candidate portal states the final date for direct admission is April 21. Still some hope.

That leaves some of us with hard decisions. I got accepted to the Falcon Scholarship for the Air Force Academy and I have to give my answer by April 15th... It would be frustrating if I accepted the offer and then found out afterwards I was accepted to the USNA!

Couple of things here - First - congrats on the Falcon Scholarship! Second, USAFA wants to inform everyone of their status no later than 15 April. THEN appointees have 1 MAY as the accept or decline date THEN they continue to make offers until they fill the class to the desired entry level.

As for you accepting prep slot now, and then getting a better offer (in your opinion), you are free to change your mind up until report date. Some people just don't show up - there was a nametag in my room of someone who just didnt come. Some people tell the school in advance that they will not be coming and the school can appoint someone else.

Thank you for that information! I'm already determined to attend a service academy (USAFA is still my top choice at the moment, but I would definitely think about it more carefully if I was accepted directly to the USNA). If I have nothing to lose by accepting the FS and having the option to rescind it later then it would be smart of me to get started. Thank you again.

This is what my son got from his admissions counselor today, after he asked if the class of 2024 was complete.

"Tyler -

Yes, most of the offers have gone out so I'm suggesting to students to be ready to go on to their Plan B after April 1st. We're still fine tuning the class so there may be a handful of new offers but you don't want to lose out on any other opportunities from other schools. Good luck!"

Do you think this applies to the Naval Academy as well?

That doesn't sound encouraging for those of us still waiting on the "For Those of Us Still Waiting" thread...

Agree, still a chance. Slimmer, but not done yet. Continue with plan A (don't think of SA alternative as plan B): Chips will fall where they fall. A lot of talent out there in the same boat who are going to be amazing regardless where they end up.

This changes nothing. Your kid is still on the bubble. May get an appointment or may not, but still in the running.

If there's no TWE come 21-Apr, that would be a glimmer of hope, maybe a "bubble-balancer" thread would be fun!

You may have seen in the USNA thread that one admissions officer said they have an internal deadline of April 1 that they try to reach, but the published one is still April 15. I talked to another USNA admissions rep saying they still have a bunch of waivers to process - so if you're in that boat like me, then you might be better off. Who knows, though.

DS hasn't received a decision from USNA or USAFA. I think it's time to throw in the towel for this application season. He has also been rejected from some high-level schools for electrical engineering. This isn't looking too hot. Anyone else in the same position?
I was rejected from schools like Rice and Vanderbilt but I just got my acceptance a few days ago, still some hope!

My DS is still waiting. Haven't received any emails or twe or any thing from his admission counselor.
And sooo we wait.......
but losing hope.

Where did this information come from? That is slightly reassuring in times like these.
That would be an unusual statement from the academies. They have certainly said offers are still being made, and that they hoped to have all/most offers out by April 15. But I've never seen them put a number on the amount.
