Wondering if anyone who had an LOA needing a waiver in the past month or two has had a waiver decision rendered? I've been stuck with an LOA pending a waiver for almost 8 weeks now, and it seems like there are some on this forum who are in a similar case. Maybe we could post any status updates to this thread?

I spoke to admissions and they said it could very well be possible that I (and others with a similar case) could hear back after 15 April. They said they still have some outstanding waivers to go through.

DD rec'd LOA Feb 27th for NAPS still under waiver review in DODMERB. Now AROTC just added to DODMERB under waiver review. May 1st college decision deadline fast approaching.

Keep in mind that there are lots of issues involving medical waivers and whether you are successful may depend on factors beyond your control. The overriding requirement for USNA is that they graduate enough unrestricted line officers to meet the demands of the USN and USMC. This means they need to admit a certain number who currently are medically qualified for URL b/c some will become unqualified along the way. Thus, if your condition makes URL impossible or severely limits your service assignment, you have more of an uphill battle.

Some medical conditions are complicated in terms of whether to give a waiver and someone has to go through those records and make a decision. That takes time.

In some cases (e.g., color deficiency), there are limits on the number of waivers per class, so decisions have to be made how many waivers to give and to whom to give them.

Finally, some people may be waiting for an event (i.e., being cleared by doctor 6 months post surgery). Whether that happens successfully can impact the decision not just for the individual involved (obviously) but for others who may, in the domino effect, be impacted by that outcome.

It's really like putting together a puzzle . . . frustrating, but keep in mind the first point above.

What about a candidate with an LOA, but needing a nomination? Anybody else in this situation?

DS's school counselor told him that a candidate with an LOA that needs a Waiver can recieve a decision as late as August? Therefore plan B needs to be put into action on 5/1 and then wait for the waiver...August? That seems a little late + the candidate would miss the summer and IDay. That's wrong intel? Right? He was under the impression a waiver can come in as late as day before IDay.

August is unlikely to the SAs. Maybe ROTC but not the Academies.

DS just received TWE for USNA. He has LOA for USAFA and still waiting for a Nom (he unfortunately only had a Nom for USNA). Also awarded NROTC-MO Scholarship so back-up plan is in place.
Maybe see if your MOC can switch his USNA nom to a USAFA nom. Not sure how likely it is that it'll happen, but it wouldn't hurt to try

Thank you. He has been told to be patient for a nom, but probably wouldn’t hurt to ask Congressman even though we are from a competitive district.

Yes, it could hurt to try, IMO. Instructions are laid out, you have a BGO to ask your questions of. How does it look to contact your MCO and ask for special treatment outside the parameters of the process? To me, not a good look. AND they are busy. Stressed. DONE with their nomination process.

If you decide to try again, you don’t want the be ‘that guy/gal’ that triggers any kind of ‘negative’ thought. And to me, not having an understanding at this point of how it works...or using the resources you ARE provided (BGO), at least isn’t a positive.

Maybe it doesn't matter, IDK, but that’s what I would tell my son. Who BTW wouldn’t even think to do that. He would say ‘I didn’t get a nom. Period.’ and he would try again next cycle.
