Good afternoon everybody,

I am a current re-applicant to the USMA Class of 2026. Last year, I was physically and academically Q'd with two nominations, but was medically disqualified. This time around, I was able to successfully obtain a 3 Q'd position with a nomination as well. It has been hard work to get where I am today and have only become more determined to be appointed after having an overnight visit to West Point.

As of now, I recently had my RC contact me in regards to whether or not I would be interested in an offer for an AOG Scholarship. I promptly stated I would gladly accept the offer if offered, but have not officially been given an offer for it. I have been reading the forums about this and it seems like a very rare golden ticket to make the West Point dream come true.

I want to see if anyone has experience with the junior military colleges and which one(s) are the top tier for making candidates into West Point cadets. Also, if anyone has any insightful information and/or helpful tips as an AOG scholar I would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully my shown interest will grant me a spot on the AOG list!

Go Army.

DS looked into Marion, New Mexico Military Institute, and Greystone which is at the University of the Ozarks as his plan B. The first two have a Service Academy Prep program. From what I understand if you are sponsored by AOG and you do well you are guaranteed a slot in the next class. A family friend was offered a sponsorship decided on NMMI graduated from WP in 2020 and is currently a 2nd Lt at Fort Bliss. Another cadet I knew self-sponsored at Greystone when it was headquartered in Texas did very well and was accepted into WP the following year. I believe both Marion and NMMI publish the acceptance rate for both sponsored and unsponsored students. From what I recall acceptance rates are high for even unsponsored students. Good Luck!!

My son is currently an AOG prep student at Georgia Military College. The options he was given were GMC, Marion Military Institute, New Mexico Military Institute, and Northwest Prep. There are nine sponsored WP students there and all received their appointments in February. Also, three other students at GMC (self prep) received their appointments! All of the schools show their acceptance rates and are all pretty equal in that sense. The schools are directed on what classes the prep students take so that will also be similar. My son was pretty much told don't screw up! Reach out if you'd like to talk to him and hear more about it.

Take it if offered it is the rare Golden Ticket. My DD did not get into a SA on the first round and was not offered an AOG sponsored civil prep. So she had to decide on self prep or her ROTC scholarship at a regular college. After much research she ended up going to Northwestern Prep (NWP) for the fall semester then back home for college at a local university spring semester. Many of the programs are a full year but NWP is just one semester. Her reasoning for this was two fold, she would retake the act and take the sat multiple times and would save money second semester by living at home. Basically she was told her act was not high enough, so that was her best route to improve her scores. She did increase her scores and was offered an appointment on round 2. Prep schools also give you the time to mature after high school and help you complete your applications to make you a better candidate than you were when you got the rejection. There is also the lifelong friendships you make along the way!

Thank you for the reply, Marion Military Institute seems to be the place to go when it comes to AOG students. Their SAP program sounds like something I'd love to do. I'll have to check out Greystone, I live in Texas and it would be nice to be close near home.

I'd love to hear from him if that's not too much of a hassle! I was wondering, did your son receive a similar email asking if he was interested in AOG? I only ask this because I wonder if those who are contacted bt their RC and show interest are guaranteed the civil prep slot in case things go south while on the NWL. Congratulations on your son receiving the AOG slot by the way!

That's great news! I'm sure admissions favor re-applicants who show perseverance like that. I'll look into Northwestern Prep. If I'm not mistaken, that prep school is newly sponsored by the AOG as of recently.

My daughter is a firstie and they had OG's come and speak to them at NWP. I know for sure there were AOG sponsored prepsters her year. The OG's may have been self prep but I never got the indication that it was new to AOG, just that many of the sponsored prepsters were Falcon Scholars, headed to USAFA. They encourage all the self preps to apply to all 5 academies.

Hello, congrats on your offer of an AOG sponsored prep scholarship, it is a significant achievement. My son was in your position last year at this time and did his research on the five prep schools. All of them will prepare you well for acceptance into USMA, it really comes down to fit. My son chose GMC for several reasons 1) he had informative conversations with several of the leadership cadre and was really inspired by their backgrounds and commitment to the prep cadets 2) their "physical fitness" preparation schedule is more rigorous 3) the location is convenient to Atlanta airport, has plenty of hotels/ restaurants/ basic shopping, churches. He had a great experience at GMC and increased his ACT from 33 to 35 in the first quarter. He is now at USMA and says the transition for him was smooth. Again, all the prep schools will prepare you for USMA, pick what seems the best fit for you. GOOD LUCK!

My son had been asked about prep school early on from his FFO. Our district is competitive and he had sent students to the AOG prep program before. He also was vocal about being willing to go to a prep school as his freshman and sophomore year grades were not as strong. And like Xufan's post earlier, my son did look at all the prep schools that are offered, talked to the leadership and cadets at them, as well as visiting the two schools he had offers for 4 year ROTC scholarships. He chose GMC for many of the same reasons. Greystone was not an option for AOG scholarships for him. Let me see if I can figure out how to private message you his number. Or send me yours and I'll have him contact you. Also, you can ask the different prep schools to speak to cadets once you have the offer. Trust me, they will fight to have you!

I may have looked at an older forum post where they spoke about NWP being newly introduced to the AOG sponsorship and mistook it for being new.

Thank you for the information! I'm still looking into the prep schools and it does seem the AOG acceptance rate for getting into the SA is relatively the same. I'll see what seems to be the best for me. By the way, congratulations to your son on receiving an appointment and attending the USMA!

Thank you for the help, I can't send direct messages on here because I only have posted once (I think you have to have 5 posts before messaging someone). I'll be checking out the other prep schools while I am at it. I was concerned that the academies may have a preference over which prep school you choose to attend.

DS is headed to GMC on Monday for a tour. He received his offer of scholarship and GMC is one of his top choices. I'd love to arrange a chat with your son if it works out. Please message me.

DS received his offer of scholarship and we are touring Georgia Military College and Admiral Farragut Academy in St Petersburg, FL this upcoming week. We only have one essentially one week to choose to accept/decline the offer and provide 1st and and 2nd choice of schools. Anyone else in this boat and can share information? His offer letter states that still may be possible to be offered admission to WP. Anyone receive scholarship offers and then also receive a direct appointment?

Are you in the Houston Area?

Yes! At least one young woman was all set to go to MMI on an AOG scholarship & then after 1 May she was converted to an actual appointment. We will never know what happened but things change even after 1 May. (But don’t count on it.)

Hello USMA.candidate, I was in the same boat as you. I am currently a sophomore at the Marion Military Institute and I am an AOG. I was medically dq'ed out of high school, went to MMI my first year nonsponsored and medically qual'ed, did not get in again. But because of my motivation to get into west point, I was the first person to receive the AOG scholarship. I am now going to graduate college and go to west point in June. I'd give LTC Bowen a call and ask about the program we have here, I think this is a great opportunity for you to grow as a leader. If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me.

I was wondering if that ever happens. Specifically getting sponsored for prep, after already self-preping one year. My son went to NWP this year, and still awaiting possible appointment to USAFA, USCGA, MMA. (Didn't get nom for west point, but applied). He wants to prep again, (at Marion this time) if he still doesn't get an appointment this 2nd time applying. Was wondering how common to get sponsored for prep, after self-preping??? Do you know of others in addition to yourself?

Is it common? Not really. The biggest reason why it is not common has nothing to do with competitiveness, GPA, test scores, etc., it has everything to do with just asking. It does not hurt to ask your RC about it because sometimes, believe it or not, admissions have no idea what you're doing at your prep school. Calling your RC and telling them your situation and expressing interest in becoming sponsored is crucial.
