Late April decision release

We got a thin white envelope…… it was the damn water bill FFS

Still waiting
You got me there, I was checking to see if anyone heard because my boy said his didn't update and I got really sad at first when I read your post. But then I was like wait a minute and reread it... i completelty missed it, guess its way to early for me apparently or maybe its because I'm blonde. But now I'm not checking my actual mail for the next month, because I'll think every dang white envelope is a twe and it'll just be some bill.

I'm telling you, I'm not gonna check my mail for a month. No way I wanna stress at every little letter, I'd rather let him stress each time he opens his portal. I'm early 40's he's 18, his heart can handle it way better. My mail man might get irritated but hey, no news isn't a bad thing..

My DS is still 17 ( he will be 17 during bct for a couple weeks ) and it is super calmed and chilled.... his watch must run on a 28hrs day lol

COVID restrictions have hampered candidates worldwide. I think they key there, from my local experience, is: what did you do that you could do while under the restrictions? Some candidates did nothing at all. That's fine, if they were in an area that was almost completely locked down; it wasn't in their control. Others...

Is it more difficult for a candidate abroad to receive an appointment? I haven't seen any evidence of that in my time as an ALO. I've seen LOTS of candidates from all over the world receive appointments. The challenges are usually the nomination interviews and then the time difference for submitting things to USAFA or to respond to inquiries. Again, that being said; when I sat on my MOCs nomination board, we convened at odd hours to interview candidates for nomination from countries in Europe and Asia. The key is being flexible and proactive.

As for "leadership opportunities" the key is to be flexible and become involved in things that are available and interesting to you. The answers to questions, explanations of the challenges of being a student abroad, how he adapted and overcame those challenges to continue his quest. Those will be big ticket items. It might actually be an advantage if phrased well..."I had to adapt to XXX due to host nation laws. To continue my .....I....." That could have strength. Also, does he have any language skills? That can be emphasized as well as his ability to work in a culturally/ethnically diverse environment.

He should be like any other candidate.
Thank you Sir @flieger83 for the most comforting words of encouragement and hope. Frankly, I wasn't so sure at first but I feel now there's still hope in the land of hopes and dreams.

Additionally, I suspect some applicants are also wondering if they should get in touch with their ALOs' they had interviewed with. In my son's case, he needs a nomination from the Vice President's office and he's anxiously waiting and checks his USAFA Portal for a Green Light 🙏🏽. I sometimes wonder what else could we, as parents or he do to perhaps even contact the VP's office to follow up on his application. Any sound advice Sir @flieger83 ?

Just to respond quickly with regard to VP nom - USAFA handles the selection for where those are assigned, there are no VP staffers actively involved in the selection. I would suspect the majority of USAFA applicants apply for the VP nom, so it’s always a slim chance for those. They do get used, though, so hope is still there.

At this point, applicants should have their alternate plan ready to execute, while hope can remain alive until firm news of appointment yes/no arrives.

Same, it sucks. Gotta choose AFROTC at a senior military school or LEAD program and reapply for 2028 so I would have time for college classes.

Shot down here as well....Plan B here we go, but DS likely not re-applying as Plan B is a no brainer for him. Sucks knowing Football for him is over, but it was more for staying active at the Academy. Good luck to the rest of you.
