I believe 2 for 7 singing is two weeks from today for C/O 2025

Wow. Hard to believe that DS is 50% through his academic journey and 75% complete with summer trainings! We have enjoyed him being on leave this block however I can tell he is anxious to get back to Mother B and his shipmates. Next year at this time we will be talking about Service Selection (or is it Service Assignment?) and then Ship selection (assuming he sticks with plan for SWO and then gets it).

I would imagine SWO select is rarely ever declined (unless the kid has shown specific aptitude that would attract/place him as subs). Congrats on his next big step! 2/7 is a bigger "ceremonial" deal than it used to be.

Indeed, 2-for-7 came very quickly for DD. What went even more quickly was the time to commissioning. The calendar says it’s two years from here. At least from a parent’s perspective — and the mid’s too, I believe — it felt like 1/2 year. Of course, YMMV. Congrats to your mid! 😊

DS said he doesn't know of anyone (his friends) that aren't coming back to sign. I'm anxious parent but put on my "brave" face. Looking forward to 2/C parent weekend and last two years.
Math/stats folks... How many mids usually don't come back?

There are always some. Both of my sons knew of a couple, each.

I would be surprised if there were any published numbers. Only PS starting and 1/C commissioned numbers.

DS said a handful but most of those separated in Plebe summer or year.

anyone know the timing? I am going to be in town and would love to get some pics in T court with her company and team mates
Each company has an assigned time. I don’t think the schedule is published — at least not to the public. There’ll be plenty of photographs taken, both by official USNA photographers and by the mids themselves. (Every family is different. But I do know if I’d shown up at T-Court to take photos, DD would’ve cringed with embarrassment. “Dad, seriously? I would’ve sent you photos.” With respect, YMMV.)

Official USNA photos (hired and arranged by USNAAA) don’t happen anymore. They didn’t happen for ‘24. Individual companies MAY hire their own photographer (and many for ‘24 didn’t). For my guy, ‘no phones allowed’, although some slipped through. No signing photo. Still a bit salty about that one lol bc it’s a really neat point in their career….officially committing to the Navy (especially for this momma, who’s ‘24 never took the Oath, either 😬).

My ‘22’s signing, mask and all, is one of my all time favorites. It’s a BIG DEAL for them. Adding their name to their class scroll, actually committing themselves.

Who knows what will happen this year. But at least recently, it’s not been an officially USNA level hired photographed event.

This is definitely more formal than what we did. We got handed papers by our company commander at like 7 PM and we just signed in our rooms and went on with the night. Maybe we got a Steerage Pizza? For my buddies and I, we didn’t even blink an eye. We were confident in our decision. We had 1 company mate who didn’t sign. He went to an Ivy and did very well. He did serve in the reserves as well. He just realized he other life goals.

And your experience is FAR more formal/organized than what my class and those who served in my era experienced. There was really no "Two for Seven" recognition AT ALL. We all knew that (by law) the actual obligation was set when we attended our first class of our Second Class Year.
Not the Day we came back from PROTRAMD/ACTRAMID/Leave, not at the first formation or military obligation, the actual first class we attended. There certainly was no signing, scroll or ceremony and I don't know of anyone with pictures to commemorate the occasion.
Actually, USNA (and USMA and USAFA) were besieged with cameras and reporters at the time as the first females to attend were finishing plebe summer and joining the brigade.

I concur with OldRetSWO. We didn't have any ceremony it was just known that was the obligation with coming to the first class and a few cursory High fives and handshakes were exchanged in that first class back.

But I like the idea that there is now a way to mark this level of next commitment and I am glad the USNA does it.. cameras or not!

We all knew once we sat in class it was the ‘real commitment’. I can remember is sort of looking at each other and smiling. I think the paper was formality. I might have a picture of my room mates and I signing in our rooms, in some sort of PT gear? But that was about it. And we were still in the years where ‘look to left, look to your right, one if you won’t make it’ era. I think we lost two for academics after 2/7. One was grad week actually. The class ahead of mine in our company only graduated 22 Mids, some massive issues there.

Just got the confirmatory text! Proud family. Told DS at the beginning of summer we would support whatever his decision was on the 2 for 7. His reply of "but that's why I'm here" was definitive, like all the others signing today, years before, and years after. Gulp. Proud and grateful to all.
