I have stated that over and over- you have to be mentally tough to make it through the SA process! My DS was deferred to RA this morning. My daughter received the same message last night. It was a day of highs and lows...awarded the NROTC scholarship and then deferred at USCGA. This whole process is not for the weak lol.
I'm wishing there was a "care" emoji this morning. I'm thinking of all the kids that got denied this morning and all the ones deferred to RA and trusting that they will all find their path to service even if it takes a lot more determination.I have stated that over and over- you have to be mentally tough to make it through the SA process! It has been said over and over again that the process of rejection, rapplication, persistence and determination are extremely valuable life skills. I know if doesn't help but at the opposite end of the spectrum my DS has never really had to go through a serious set back or rejection and that worries me. Real grit is built in the challenges/failures in life.I'm wishing there was a "care" emoji this morning. I don’t think this is something they typically share. From previous tryouts experience, it’s easier to identify the top and bottom players, but much more difficult to sort out the middle of the pack. I wish they were more transparent, but understand why they are not.Curious if anyone knows how common it is to be sent for reevaluation during regular admission after applying EA and get in.
I believe revaluation just means deferred, right? They can add anything that may improve their record and have to add first semester grades.I don’t think this is something they typically share. I believe reevaluation just means deferred. If you have been deferred (selected for reevaluation) that means that CGA considers you a great applicant. However, they can't select the entire class from the EA pool. They always defer some applicants who they think would be good members of the class in order to compare them to the rest of the applicants in the regular admission pool. This also gives those applicants a chance to continue to strengthen their application. What does Regular Decision Reevaluation mean?
Keep your head up. It's a humbling process for sure. Thousands of 4+ GPA student-student athletes competing for 300 spots.I was deffered too also know as not good enough for the first round. Just hope I’m not getting kicked down the road for a denial. It’s crazy being in a IB program with 4HL’s and a 4.4 with two varsity sports isn’t good enough. Went SAT optional but submitting them now.
I did do the Cadet for a Day and reached out to the coaches but never heard a word back. It wasn't until after Cadet for a Day that I learned 47% are selected athletes in October and it was a little late in the process.Keep your head up. It's a humbling process for sure. I know they say not submitting test scores doesn't count against you, but it's such a competitive process, anything you can do to provide another data point for consideration is a win (assuming the test scores are decent). If they're not great, not sure there's time to take it again, but consider trying the ACT. There's a date in Feb that registration is still open for. My daughter much preferred the ACT and scored much better on it.
Look at it this way, you've just been awarded another 3 months to beef up your application. Everything is important. Hopefully you submitted all of the "optional" LORs. Use the time to get even more involved in the community. Stay in touch with you AO. As you get more good report cards and or progress reports, send those to the AO.
If you played 2 varsity sports, I'm assuming you may be pursuing at least one of them at the Academy and have a relationship with a coach. Maybe consider pursuing both sports. Coaches can advocate for you, so the more the merrier.
Not sure if you did AIM or any other campus programs (Bear's Day, Cadet for Day, etc), but be sure to visit if you haven't already to show demonstrated interest. There are Bear's Day events on the schedule in Jan and Feb.
Good luck!!
I’d keep following up with the coaches every couple weeks or so. Not sure of your sports, but coaches can be hard to pin down especially if it’s in season.I did do the Cadet for a Day and reached out to the coaches but never heard a word back. Average ACT is around 29, so some above and same below. I’d hurry up and sign up for the Feb ACT and give it another shot. They super score, so increasing in even a single area can help you. My daughter took the ACT 3 times. Each time was a little strong in a different section. On the very last one she took last Oct (after the EA deadline) she scored nearly perfect in Reading and it brought her superscore composite over 30.I received a deferral last night. I'm trying to do everything I can to fight for that RD spot! I've submitted a resume, and my first-quarter grades, but if anyone has any advice for me regarding other supplemental items that I should add, I would appreciate it! I applied test optional because my ACT was pretty low... don't know if that is something that counted against me. Thanks!
