One year (DS's 4th class maybe?) KP stole Objee's head. The following year one of his class mate's got into the KP main building and stole the KP colors. Paul Duddy had a picture of her running with them flying over her shoulder. There have been a couple "mixers". During one (4th class year)...
I have a friend who is now a fellow CG Auxiliarist, but is a retired Marine pilot. He was also a flight instructor at Pensacola. His comment was the incoming CGA grads and Army Warrants (already helo pilots and transitioning) were prepared and focused. The USNA grads for the most part weren't...
When my DS was a 4th Class a West Point cadet on exchange for the fall semester told him that CGA cadets had it much tougher than WP cadets (full disclosure, I don't know if he meant all years or Swab/4th Class). When he was a 2nd Class we were out for Parent's weekend. I got chance to talk to a...
Hello from a Binghamton Grad! And I live in Owego, so I'm pretty local. And I'm an Admissions Partner, and involved with the CG Auxiliary. And both my sons are Active Duty, one enlisted and one a USCGA grad. So I can answer at least some of your questions. I will PM you contact information...
AIM is training for 2/C cadet cadre. So cancellation is not trivial to cadet training. I suspect, but that is speculation, that they would reschedule to keep that program if at all possible. Otherwise those cadets will have to be transferred to either CGAS or direct appointment cadre already...
I can't speak to CG personally, as Devil Doc can of Navy, of life in the fleet. But I have gotten feedback from both sons who are, one commissioned and one enlisted. In general there are good and bad officers, and the word gets around. My enlisted son did a lot of checking on stations and...
"JO's in the CG have far greater hands on responsibility than their Navy counterparts" At least two of DS's classmates 2017 are XO on 154s now (don't know how many others. They just happen to be in the same town). Two more are XOs in Bharain, and are slated for command on 87s come summer while...
I don't want to stray too far from the real point of the thread. Life after the Academy and the missions of the service are really what needs to be considered. The Coast Guard isn't entirely about Search and Rescue, and there are billets that can be less than exciting. Generally speaking...
"If he likes D1 football and the rivalry of Army/Navy, that would pull that way. "
Separately from the life after Academy issue, USGCA rivalry with USMMA is real. Varsity and club sports all count to the cup at the end of the year. More cadets (percent of the Corps) will play varsity at USCGA...
And do not "manage" your DS or DD social media while they are at Swab Summer or 4C year. The cadre will find out and DS or DD will suffer. They should delete or at a minimum deactivate their accounts, probably as soon as they receive an appointment. Their accounts will be monitored.
Korab got it. Sorry. My son's appointment to CGAS came on 10 December. And it came in a TWE which caused a minor heart failure. But was a positive. I heard him yell from the other side of the house.
As an aside, when he did Cadet for a Day, the dining table he sat at had a cadet who was prior...
In general, CGAS appointments are at the end of the Academic year. When my son was there most were given a week or two before CGAS graduation. There were a few handed on the day of graduation. A few have been given mid-year, but I think those were self-preps. Operative words there "I think".
