  • Thanks for your response...very informative. DS will not likely be a recruited athlete, however is competive for traditional path. Enjoy SS. DS was accepted to WP SLE and USAFA SS, awaiting USNA.
Can you share your experience as recruited swim athlete? what are your time standards? did u reach out to usaf swim team captain? What is your path to commission versus non athlete? DS is unsure if competive enough to go D1. He has usa swimming A-AA time standards, 3 varsity letters, mvp, etc. No state ttles, top state is 4th in region.

Sure, I would be happy too. My most competitive time standards are USA Swimming Futures cuts, however I am also .7 off of my 1650 Winter Junior National cut. I actually reached out by filling out the recruit questionnaire at the suggestion of one of the PE and Fitness test instructors after I visited with my mom last year(link to the questionnaire below).

After reaching out, they contacted me and have been sending me information about swimming and the academy as a whole. While I am not sure how your DS's times line up, it is easy to check if he activates his account on collegeswimming.com and selects "how do I fit" when viewing the USAFA team. If DS feels that D1 is not a right fit, but wants to go to an academy, the USCGA has a D3 men's swim team too.

On a path to commission, it is the same process as everybody else, however the coach will tag you as a "recruited athlete" (which I received on my SS app) obviously helps.

    I hope this helps!
