  • I recently got accepted to KP and read your post about how your son became an aviator. I was wondering if you could share his journey through the academy and how he obtained a flight slot?

He applied for both Navy and Marine Corps pilot slots his first class year and got offers for both. I think his internship experience was valuable in getting both offers. He was an average student at KP. There were several available spots in aviation, so it is usually easier to get a spot from KP than from USNA or NROTC. In his class, everyone who wanted a flight spot got one, but some got NFO rather than pilot.

Keep in mind, however, that the number of flight spots varies from year to year, and there are no guarantees. USAF applications are more complicated and begin in your second class year. If you have other questions, you can email me at molodyetz@aol.com. Good luck to you in your journey.

Packets usually go out first part of May, so any day now. Always glad to see Washington represented at KP. Make sure to attend the welcome aboard picnic in June. You will receive an invitation.

Yes, you still have plenty of time to get your TWIC before INDOC.
On the USNA situation, I believe that the lack of media scrutiny and quacking by politicians demanding shutdowns, inquiries, etc. only strengthens my strongly held belief that the KP sea term shutdown was motivated by a senator's and cabinet member's desire to enhance their SASH resumes for future positions in the H Clinton administration. They don't want the Pentagon blow back or national scrutiny not present then.
@kpmom2013 my DS is scheduled for an overnight Jan31-Feb01. His grandpa will drop him off and pick him up. Do you know how long is the parents meeting? Do you know if my DS will have time to interact with the football coach? Where can we find the overnight packing lists ? Thank you
Aw thanks so much Susan. I really am beginning to feel a hole in the family (and in my heart) . . . sniff. I know beyond question that this is the right move for DS and that he will be pursuing his passion, but still . . .
Thank you for the shoulder -- I'm sure I will take advantage of it!
    Lisa.
