I've sat on nomination panels for my Congressman and a few perspective nominees have presented the letter at the interview. But I agree with kinnem above use all means to let the MOCs know.
If she wants to serve in the military and she wants to have the best in aerospace engineering experiences and facilities -- that Prep School offer is the Golden Ticket. In a 20 year career -- 1 year is like the blink of an eye. It has been my experience that if you go to the Prep School and...
The Prep School is a wonderful experience. Only bring what is on the list. They will take and store or throw out anything else! Congratulations and Good Luck!
USAF Prep Class of 1986/USAFA 1990
If you are offered prep school take it and don’t look back! Most of my prior enlisted prep schoolmates retired as Colonels and had a great Academy experience and obviously great careers. My prep school roommate just pinned in his second star. Just Do It!
It all depends on you. If you really want to leave and do something different -- do it. There is life after the Academy. I have several friends who left USAFA before graduation - some of their own initiative and others who would have loved to stay but couldn't due to grades, honor, etc. Only...
You could cross commission. But before you start down that route, You need to look into the Air Force Specialties Like Combat Controller, Combat Rescue Officer, and Special Operations Weather. You can find them all listed under Air Force Special Operations Forces. The latest Medal of Honor...
There is a Prep School Forum on this website you may get more responses there. As a former preppie and the parent of a class of 19 preppy -- my advice to you and him is to ONLY bring what is on the checklist. Also pack a box of personal stuff for your desk plus personal cloths in a box so that...
Just my two cents but I agree OTS is a more effiecent route for you in your stage of education. Also what type of pilot do you want to be? Do you want to be a military pilot? If flying civilian aircraft is a goal there are numerous other ways to become a pilot. As far as the Air Force is...
DS just scrolled down his USAFA Portal and the Prep School checklist was there. He didn’t get an email to check his portal. He accepted USAFAPS a month ago. Good thing he checked today. Just posting so that other cadet candidates know to check your portal throughly!
Some things to consider. If location isn't an issue for her and she plans to enter the AF after graduation -- then I can see why going to USMMA with her sibling and finishing in 4 years is a good option for her. BUT also if she really is intent on joining the AF no matter which academy she...
My advice is a "little" dated-- but just use the laundry service! Your DD or DS will have more than enough other stuff to do and to worry about on the weekends. In fact, I think it's worth it up until second semester Two degree year-- then they need to start learning and practicing Life...
Thanks. You're right as a parent it's our job to worry. Since my DS is going to USAFA Prep this summer--it worries me when I hear about preppies not getting appointments to USAFA. If its for grades, fitness, or discipline problems--or even if the preppy just decides not to accept appointment...
Your DS is at USAFA Prep? Did he say what were the circumstances of those who where told they would not get an appointment? Was it grades or fitness? Or is it luck of the draw?
