  • Hello sportsmom10! I'm currently going through the remedial process for my ACL. Admissions will review my application when I complete the CFA and request a waiver after, but is it possible that I receive an admissions decision from USMA or USNA before I am officially granted the waiver? I know that was the case for your son and was not sure if only USAFA did that or not.
Thanks for your note. I now have others praying for your son's medical waiver too!
I know the agony of this wait... We are taking my family (my husband and me, including my mom, my brother and my dearest friend, who is like an aunt to both my 2 sons), to the Parents' Weekend from Aug. 30-Sept 4th. We have already booked airline tickets, hotel rooms and car rental, because we know that weekend books up early. My son wants to fly into Colorado Springs with other cadets, and we are fine with that. I think whatever my son wanted would have been fine for us. I know that we will have more time with him over the Parents' Weekend. We will continue to pray. Our best to you and your wonderful family. batmom
Thank you so much for all your prayers!! Hopefully he will hear something today from the doctors, then it has to go to the waiver board and they said he may potentially hear something definitive by the end of next week. I just reread that you are not going for I Day. If my son gets the waiver, we will be going as a family and we can certainly meet up with your son. I hate to mention any plans, but I hate the thought of any parents wondering if there sons/daughters will meet up with anyone prior to getting to I day. I hope that makes sense. We are planning on going up a few days ahead to have a mini vacation. (HOPEFULLY). Thanks again for all the prayers. I will definitely keep you posted. Maybe prayers from the East to the West will help?
You are on my prayer list every day...
I know the pain of waiting.
I pray that the medical waiver is granted. I hope we do get to meet one another. I know that you have a terrific son. Our prayers will continue...Batmom
I am always encouraged to hear from you. We have decided not to go to "I" Day because we are going to the academy on April 11 to have a tour (our son will be with a cadet for the day) and we will be on a regular tour. I think he will be on the plane with other appointees from our area, which is Alamo, CA- 25 miles east of San Francisco. One of our friends who had 2 sons who both attended the USNA did not go with their sons for the "I" day but they went for the parents' weekend. We are going for the parents weekend along with my 87 year old mom (my son's grandma) and my brother (his uncle) my husband and one of my closest girlfriends (who is like an aunt to both my sons). I too hope we get to meet. Your family is in our prayers and we think about you and pray for you daily. Please keep us posted on your son's news. We hurt for what you are all going through... It is very stressful. Our best to your family and your son, and prayers for the medical waiver to be granted. batmom
Batmom, I hope to meet you at I day, you seem like an inspirational person. I just said to my husband, "I really hope he makes it" The only consulation I have is that if he doesn't get in, at least it was not because of something he should have or could have done. We can't control the medical part. But his story has been like this all year. He broke his leg in 2 places right before school starting while playing football and he was supposed to be doing the CFA the folowing weekend. I was heartbroken for him, I try to be positive for him and tell him that this is all a mental challenge. I am happy for you son, at least as a family you can begin to make plans and he can enjoy the rest of his senior year. Are you going for I day? What state are you from? Our plan is to go for Iday and Parents Weekend if we are lucky enough to get the waiver.
    Dear Sportsmom10,
I am so sorry about the troubles that you have faced with this test. I truly understand the challenges of waiting for the medical waiver because ours took 8 months to receive. Our prayers are for the Lord to bless your son whereever he goes, whether it is the USAFA or UConn or Norwich. May your son and your family be blessed. Please keep us updated... We will continue to pray. batmom
Thank you, it was the second time he did the test and he did worse than the first time because his allergies were bothering him. We faxed everything over to the waiver board and we just have to wait it out. If it is meant to be, it will be. If he doesn't get in, he has a few Plan B's that are awesome too (Uconn and Norwich Univeristy) and a few others that I made him apply to. If he doesn't get in this year, he can keep trying, there is nothing else he could have done. Thanks again for the support, I will let you know when we hear something, hopefully it will be good news!!!
    Dear sportsmom10,
We prayed yesterday that the asthma test would be successful... Hope that all went well. If not, we will keep you in our prayers for another answer.
Our best to you and your family.
    Dear Sportmom10,
Thanks for the update. We will be praying for success on Wed. for the asthma test. May the Lord bless you and your son and the waiver be granted. I know how difficult and challenging it is to wait... Please keep me posted. Thanks, Batmom
Batmom, thanks for the prayers. My DS is going on Wednesday for a methacholine challenge test due to his history of asthma. I believe if he passes this test, he will be granted the waiver. Keep the prayers coming and enjoy these last few months with your DS at home and his senior year!!!
    Dear Sportsmom 10,
I think about you every day...and hope and pray for good news for your son too.
Staff Sargeant Wharton is the one who should be able to let you know the updates, but I am assuming that you already have spoken to her. We are praying for GREAT NEWS for your DS. Please let me know. Thanks, Batmom
Our ALO told us to make sure you keep on the Medical Review Board. Don't be shy about it. As I said before, my son calls them at least once a week. I am praying for your son and your family. I hope we can get to meet each other in June!!
Hello, Congratulations on the BFE for your son. We heard on Tuesday that my son is being sent to the medical review board to determine if he will receive a medical waiver or not. They have not promised him anything, so we are waiting and praying for good news that he is given the medical waiver. If not, we haven't really discussed what he intends to do...He has already been accepted to many colleges and universities in Calif. but his heart is on the USAFA, so it is difficult to explore other "real" options until this door is completely closed. The wait has been excruciating, since my DS like most of the other candidates has dreamed about this for a very long time. We are praying for his acceptance, and we will also pray for your son. Let us hope we can meet over the parents' weekend. Wouln't that be wonderful?
He seems to call the Staff Seargent at least twice a week. My son's entire application was only completed sometime in November. Everything else was in except his CFA, because he broke his leg playing football the last week of August. So he had to let it heal and then do the CFA, but everything else was in by August. He did not hear about the nomination until around December 20th and the Congressman didn't send the paperwork in until Mid January, so we were extremely surprised to get the BFE already. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I didn't realize I had a message. :) Feel free to email me with any other questions I might be able to help you with. Hopefully we will get to meet you in June.
First of all, let me congratulate you on your DS being the Principal nomination. That's is no easy feat. My son was the Primary, not the Principal nomination. We have not heard anything from the Congressman. We were quite surprised to see the BFE sticking out of the mailbox last Thursday. I almost hid it from my son. I thought it was very mean of the AFA to send out a BFE to someone that is still waiting on his medical waiver. I feel a little more comfortable with it now, but I don't know what will happen if he gets medically disqualified. I keep telling my son that this is just a mental challenge for him. One that will hopefully help him out during BCT. He has some great other options, but AFA is the first choice, as I'm sure it is for many other kids. What state are you from? I hope you hear something soon. I know the ALO told my son to keep contacting the Medical Review Board to see if anything has been decided.
    Hello,
I am also the mom of two sons. My youngest (DS) is the Principal Nominee from our District, and he will definitely need a medical waiver too! We have not yet heard anything, and we are finding it tough to wait to hear. When was your son's entire application complete, and did you hear from the academy first, the Congressman first, or just the BFE in the mail? Thanks for your help.
Does anyone know how you find out if your "WAITLIST" changes to accepted? Do they make changes daily or weekly? Thanks for any information you can give me :)
