  • I love VMI from a parental view and my son has thrived there. I can't answer specifically as a female but my son speaks highly of many of his female brother Rats and cadets.
I have a son at VMI. As long as your daughter stacks up physically I don't think most cadets will give any thought to her being there. The only real complaints I hear is when people avoid the difficult parts for any reason. You and she should visit and she should do an overnight.

Thank you for the insight. It is appreciated. Just want to make sure she is given her fair shake--Dad thing. I am sure she can keep up physically and think if she is on the rifle team she should be able to earn respect. We visited VMI last summer and I find her watching videos and reading about VMI all the time. We will get her to the overnight. Congrats to your son and yourself.

It's a great place. I love that part of the country so much I'm considering retiring there. Lexington is a very safe small town. The "Don't For Ordinary" video is powerful. To be truthful some of the stuff is window dressing but boy can they do a tradition right at VMI. Any advice you need please feel free to ask. It sounds like you've raised quite a young lady.

Thanks for the kind words-congrats to you and your son. Lexington is great-we also love that part of the country. I am a History buff and I think that our visits to the battlefields in the area is what sparked her interest in VMI.
